Kyler Murray opts out of MLB Draft

Celebrated quarterback prospect Kyler Murray announced via Twitter that he would indeed be playing football at Texas A&M rather than pursuing a professional baseball career.
Celebrated quarterback prospect Kyler Murray announced via Twitter that he would indeed be playing football at Texas A&M rather than pursuing a professional baseball career.
That sets up an intriguing quarterback competition between Murray and incumbent Texas A&M starter Kyle Allen in August camp.
Murray, a five-star prospect and the nation’s top quarterback recruit as rated by ESPN, has also been considered a potential high selection in the 2015 Major League Baseball draft. Murray’s family previously had indicated he would pursue a baseball career if a team met a certain financial figure. The family never disclosed what that figure was.
The announcement significantly strengthens A&M’s depth chart.
After Kenny Hill transferred in January, Allen was the only quarterback on the roster with collegiate playing experience. Former walk-on Connor McQueen, who has not thrown a collegiate pass, was second on the depth chart during spring drills.
Allen, the nation’s top-rated passing quarterback in the 2014 class, threw for 1,322 yards and 16 touchdowns last year. He started the final five games of the season.
Murray was 43-0 as a starting quarterback and led Allen High School three state football championships. Named the national player of the year for 2014 by several different organizations, Murray passed for 10,386 yards and 117 touchdowns and rushed for 4,129 yards and 69 touchdowns in his high school career.
