D1Baseball (and everyone else): 'The series of the year'

Well, it's Thursday.

In other words, we're hours away from the start of the series the college baseball world will be watching.

No. 1 LSU. No. 2 A&M. Beginning Thursday evening in Baton Rouge, the two teams that to this point have proven even with each other and head and shoulders above nearly everyone else will square off.

The country's top two teams meeting during the regular season, and late into it, assures us all of what will feel like a super regional atmosphere — a month before the postseason actually begins. It will pit elite Friday guys (A&M's Grayson Long and LSU's Jared Poche'), All-Americans (A&M's Nick Banks, LSU's Alex Bregman), the Aggies' power against the Tigers' speed, A&M against Alex Box Stadium and LSU fans against corn dogs.

Oh, and the winner gets a significant inside track in the SEC West and the chase for the No. 1 overall national seed.

Oh, and they have a history. (See: 2014, for starters.)

Oh, and the ESPN family of networks moved to televise all three games (Thursday on ESPN2 at 6:30, Friday 7:00 on the SEC Network Alternate, Saturday on the mothership itself at 1 pm).

D1Baseball editors Kendall Rogers and Aaron Fitt, who will both be present at Alex Box for what they have agreed is the 'series of the year,' combined Thursday morning to release a for-subscribers inside look at the series with input from coaches that have faced both teams, scouts, and their own opinions. For everyone else, D1B's Michael Baumann contributed to the hype with his take on the five biggest factors surrounding the three-game set.

They would be:

• Night games at 'The Box'
  
• LSU's run game vs. Michael Barash's Terminator arm (and revenge subplot!)
  
• Whose offense is truly better
  
• Strikeouts, or lack thereof
  
• The loser ... will still be doing pretty alright
