Admon Gilder: Gatorade Texas Boys Basketball Player of the Year

Accolades are nothing new to the members of the elite Aggie basketball 2015 signing class (or the fans that follow them), but on Friday it was announced that Dallas Madison G Admon Gilder was the recipient of one of the biggest yet.

At the conclusion of a senior season in which the 6-4, 200-pound Gilder led Madison to the 4A state semifinals, earned 11-4A District MVP and routinely filled up the stat sheet, Gatorade named him the 2015 Texas Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

Just to note, Gilder inherits the award from previous winners Justise Winslow of Houston St. John's and Marcus Smart of Flower Mound Marcus. Winslow currently averages more than 12 points per game for the 1-seed Duke Blue Devils and Smart spent two high-scoring years at Oklahoma State before moving on to the NBA.

To put this in perspective, here are the stat lines as freshmen that the winners for the last ten years have averaged:
'12-'13 and '13-'14: Winslow - 12.3 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2.0 apg
'10-'11 and '11-'12: Marcus Smart - 15 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 3.8 apg
'09-'10: Joseph Young - 11 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.4 apg
'08-'09: Tommy Mason-Griffin - 14.1 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 5.0 apg
'07-'08: Willie Warren - 14.6 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 3.2 apg
'06-'07: Gary Johnson - 5.6 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 0.5 apg
'05-'06: Damion James - 7.6 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 0.9 apg
'04-'05: Calvin Miles - Straight to the NBA

As freshmen in college, the players winning the award Gilder won averaged 11 points per game, 4 rebounds per game, and 2.5 assists per game. That's a lot to live up to for Admon but I think he can do it. The guy can flat out ball.

What a classy class. It should be a lot of fun to see how Kennedy manages these guys. He will finally have the tools that he has needed. It's curious to me how stars have aligned for us this year. Don't quite understand how in 1 year we could have arrived at this place. Think it may have something to do with the
incredible 'branding' that has become a trademark....and maybe some hefty football coattails wherein players just want to play for SEC teams.
