gng, that was actually a pretty good post. I agreed with almost everything. Although minor, I do have to say that it seemed like Reggie had a softer touch on his passes this year than the previous. This past year, he didn't always rocket the ball to the receivers. Other than that, I agree.

yeah he showed great improvement in many phases, and his agility this year was the best it has been since the OU game his frosh. year. He did show better touch but still, like all qb's with a great arm, he still sometimes throws it too hard. He'll improve on that in the offseason and will probably enter next year as the most dangerous dual threat QB in the nation (unless Brad Smith decides to start playing again).

Out of curiosity, how many times did Scaife and Thomas line up in the slot WR position or any other non-TE position? I only saw about 5 tu games this year, but it sure did seem that Scaife/Thomas were more H backs than TEs (i.e., seemed very similiar to how we used Greg Porter a couple of years ago).

Past history of throwing to a TE is not really a powerful reason to choose the school. If so, then MB should look how many times we passed to a TE when we had one (i.e., look up Berstine, Clay, Schorp, etc.).

Reggie threw to his best "receivers" and our TEs aren't that. Besides, when the running game went to crap, we lived and died by the spread offense.

Bottom line, there's a very high probability that MB isn't coming to A&M. Fran will have to earn his contract to truly persuade him on this.

Texas uses one of their tight ends as an h-back and the other almost as a pure reciever. MB has less competition for the ball at UT then he would have at A&M because texas throws to tight ends, not wideouts...

czar iv -- Texas "wasted" Roy Williams and didn't throw to him? He's the leading receiver in the history of the University of Texas. His numbers would make him the leading receiver in the history of Texas A&M if he'd gone there too.

You, Sir, are a mother f#cking GENIUS.

gng,

Just out of curiosity, on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being the A&M homer's perception of Vince Young's throwing ability and 10 being the delusional t-sip perception of VY's throwing ability, how do you rank him? Because quite honestly, with the stats showing what they do (which is quite simply that he can't throw the ball any better than Randy Moss) VY is either A) just as terrible as as his stats display (can't hit it enough, but he was 11th in the BIG XII with the only other starting QB behind him having to split time with his backup) or B) Mack Brown is to college football what Jimy Williams is to MLB (ie he wins in spite of himself because of superior talent on both the field and sidelines).

its probably around a 6. But at that, most longhorns don't claim that he can throw really well. I think he's a "decent" thrower, who executes the system rather well. But he needs to show VAST improvement this upcoming year. If not, there is no hope for him as a passing qb. Of course, i could care less as long as his legs lead us to a national championship...

So you're basically saying every other QB in the Big XII is a 7 or higher? Its pretty amazing we have this much talent in our conference!

i've said it before and i'll say it again: you can't win the title without being able to throw(period)

VY can't throw. you do the math. sorry sips but it's true.

MaxPower, i'm not rating his throwing ability, i'm rating what his throwing ability is on the scale of 1 being what homer ags think, and 10 being what home horn fans think. No homer horn fan thinks he's the best throwing qb in the big 12. Which is what you asked me to do.

I taught Martellus last year in Chemistry and we still keep in close touch. He is a great kid and would be an incredible pick up in this year's class. He is playing his options VERY close to the chest, but frankly I am surprised by this recent serious interest in A&M. Even after his brother Michael committed to A&M he seemed very disinterested. He was supposed to visit A&M for the OU game, but our team made the playoffs and played that night. He is full of personality and I would not be surprised if he shocks people with his committment. I hope he is in the Maroon and White next season.

So 94 and 04, you said you taught Martellus. Are you going to teach him where to go to school??

VY doesnt have to be able to be a good throwing QB. He is damn good as it is and has a chance to be one of the best ever if he can go all the way. ESPN's top QB on that show the other day was Frazier. He was just an adequate passer.

But the passing criticisms of VY are well founded. I dont think he will be a QB on Sundays. I think he would be a great WR if he can catch.

Of course if he improves - yo unever know - but I cant see him throwing on Sundays.

I really don’t see any point in ranting about VY. Martellus Bennett can catch passes from any QB in D1 football. There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that if Martellus is as good as rated, then he will be catching plenty of passes for the Aggies. Under Coach Fran, Aggies had over 75% improvement between 1st and 2nd year. With an equal improvement next year A&M will have 12 wins. That means a BCS bowl game and a chance to play for the MNC.

And on the positive side of choosing Texas A&M is that he can play on the same team as his brother which means that his parents and family can attend the games for both instead of splitting up on different weekends.

Also, if he wants to play Basketball, he has a better chance at playing at A&M (since we’re a little short in depth). Also Coach G is going to make A&M into a powerful program, and it would be really very exciting to get in on the building of a championship team.

So Martellus, come to Aggieland and help make it happen. It’s much more fun to be part of making it happen than it is to just jump on some bandwagon.

And there is no fan base better than Texas Aggies. That is undisputed.

BJCard.... nice Austin handle by the way.

I think we all know he can throw more than to the TE but look at the receiving options at A&M versus texas. There is a huge difference.

If you call throwing to RBs more than a TE you have to be kidding me. I always hate the stats considering a screen pass a completion when the RB does all the work and the QB gets the stats. Also, did he throw one to himself?

Some of you act like Vince throws no better than a WR (one even flat out said that). He's an adequate passer and a phenominal runner. You guys act like we can't win any type of title with him at QB. Are you telling me there's a huge difference between 11-1 & a championship season?

As for Vince's pass distribution: he threw to guys that were open. That's what every QB should do. Our WRs were busy getting no separation, not continuing on routes, dropping passes, and running wrong routes. Should he have forced it to WRs just makes him a more "legit" passer?

This notion that a team can't win without great passing is ridiculous. Recent national championship games featured QB: Krenzel, Mauck, Frazier, Crouch, Vick (who blewout an NFL playoff opponent with only 82 yds passing) & Tee Martin.
