That is not a great sign. Musgrove needs to work her way out of going to her so much. Knowing your defensive plan is just go wherever Stowers goes makes it too easy. It also sounds like she's playing her way into five-set shape. Perhaps 45 swings would be about the right amount of swings at the moment.

I was hoping Ring would get more swings. You can tell she's finding her groove, which is huge. She had some really really good swings the last 3 sets!

I would love for her to work in tips into her game more. She has such a heavy arm that the defense has to respect it. A well placed tip would be incredible.
She tried tipping some early in the season but she doesn't really have finesse. Not sure if it's going to be in her game. But hey, as she starts putting more pressure on teams, maybe it does come alive!
The off-speed stuff is something Stowers does well, maybe it will rub off on Ring.
I hope Sharp will be okay. Good win, but I hate the service errors (we had lots of service errors last years at this time though). Also, I think we are too predictable setting Stowers at times.
I am in perpetual awe of Gabi. She serves and defense are simply sublime. It difficult to believe she is a true freshman. She is a star.

Sharp's injury is at 41:25 in that video. It doesn't look bad, fingers crossed!
Watched the game late last night. Agree it was good to see Ring and Musgrove connecting better. Stowers looked exhausted but powered through. Castle has really improved over the past couple weeks. Gabi is just insane…what a talent.
Were there any back row attacks in the 4 sets from the Ags? Feels like is we are gonna play Fitch back row (and she seems to be taking priority over Applegate on service return which is mind boggling), we need to mix her into back row attack to mix it up. Was interesting to see Taryn Morris sit in the 4th set for Fitch…was that caused by the Sharp injury?

Castle is pretty slow seeing and moving to the block especially compared to the two we had last year. She's young so hopefully recognizing opponent tendencies will improve and help. Good to see Adedeji with some reps except hated to see Sharp go down.
No, Morris was struggling and we needed to find points. After that 3rd set we needed offense. At that point it couldn't have hurt to mix it up and try something.
Looking at the stats, Morris did not having the most efficient outing, with only 2 kills on 10 attempts (0.100 hitting percentage). Morrison might have wanted to switch it up at front row for opposite, allowing for our depth to have a chance for some more positive production.
Also, Applegate recently has been the target on serve receive for most teams, so it makes sense for Fitch to take priority on serve receive until she's able to pass better. Apple was aced twice this match, but she is playing in a different position than she was last year so she could still be adjusting.

One thing is for sure; Rodriquez is a super star. That girl is phenomenal. Just wow. I really think she will be an Olympian one day.
As an avid supporter and occasional poster in the group, one of the biggest issues I feel this team has is 1) losing momentum once we are ahead, 2) not attempting to challenge for the overpasses, 3) giving up out of possession kills to the opposing team due to poor blocking. Against Stanford that was MUCH improved. Against Wisconsin and again last night while playing Creighton, we just had too many stand and stares.
Hitting percentage was woeful in the 3rd set and much improved in the 4th.
I felt we looked stronger when Applegate was not on the floor. Might have just been an off night. IDK.
Lastly, that kill by our middle at 23-24 in the 3rd was in. That's all.

I'd have to go back and watch but it seemed like either the sets to the right side were off or our hitters over there (OPP or slides) were not effective. After a while, it felt like every set there was just tipped over either due to lack of confidence or the set was poor? I honestly couldn't tell though.
Didn't Ames play outside for Creighton this match. Matched up some with Morris. Having a former middle blocker setting a block on outside can also throw a hitter off and other than the first set when we were more balanced we didn't go to Morris much
Morris had multiple chances to finish points but failed. Then she started tipping bc of lack of confidence and did not even get them over the block. So we went to other options. Here's to her just having a bad day and coming back strong next outing.
