Woah, do my eyes deceive me? Are we playing a non ranked team? It's been a few weeks since the Aggies have played a team that isn't ranked. At home, 6pm the Aggies will host 4-5 Stephen F Austin in an early mid week matchup. SFA played on our court last season, although it wasn't against the Aggies. They played in the first round of the ncaa matchup in the College Station Regional where they lost to TCU in a sweep. This time they lineup against us.
The Aggies have faced 6 ranked teams including 5 in the top eleven. The Aggies after that gauntlet are sitting at 4-5 as well. The Aggies are coming off a week where they took down #4 Stanford and narrowly lost to a talented #6 Wisconsin in 5 sets. The Aggies have shown great improvements and strides through the 4 weeks on the season and with 2 more matchups against SFA and #20 Creighton the Aggies look to continue that trend as they aim to get right for conference play less than 2 weeks away.
The Aggies are a different team now than they were in even August. It's time to continue to show that. Kirra Musgrove looks a lot more comfortable running this offense. She's finding her groove with her middle hitters Eliza Sharp and Kaia Castle, she's built a strong connection with Taryn Morris on her right side. She's got two All Americans at the outside position in Kyndal Stowers and Natalie Ring that her connection with only grow and grow. Defensively I still think our block can and will continue to improve, we are going to need it to. Serve receive has been good, but will improve as well. With our talent at the net, we need great first touches and passes to Musgrove to get our offense humming. We still have lots of room to grow and that should scare everybody.
SFA doesn't return a lot from their 2025 Southland Conference Championship team. Last year they were led by a veteran group. They ran a 6-2 and run the same this season, but with two new setters. They did lose their best hitter but bring back some experience at the pin position along with talented freshman Avery Koonson (high school teammates of Jenna Thedford). They do also return their middles, however both stand at only 5'11.
So I expect us to run a lot of slides, and for Kirra to have 5 plus kills. Hopefully we can get a clean easy sweep and get back to .500 before a match with Creighton. With conference play inching close, we need to keep this positive progression. Although this won't be a ranked matchup, our young team can learn from this match. I want to see an efficient night, great passing, and lots of monster blocks!! BTHO SFA
