We are back. We are so back. Last match we saw the Aggie Volleyball we all know and love. The Aggies went to Disney World and took on a loaded and number 4 ranked Stanford and beat them 3-1: 25-23, 25-13, 21-25, 25-19. A statement win, a much needed win, and hopefully a bounce back turning point win that ignites this young Aggie team to a successful season and into another huge matchup Friday night against #6 Wisconsin.
Friday night, the Aggies welcome volleyball blue blood Wisconsin into Reed Arena for a huge non conference battle. Elite volleyball will be played here at home and our team needs the 12th man at its best. We saw how impactful the 12th man was in Lincoln, Nebraska, we saw how impactful they were in Kansas City, there's nothing more powerful than the 12th man. Although this season started off a little rocky, the talent is there, the coaching is there, the potential is there. With a new lineup and lots of new players it would take time for it all to gel. Well it's here and it's time to get behind them once again! Let's make Reed Arena chaotic tomorrow night!
The Aggies finally got things clicking, after getting swept by SMU and Purdue, and close losses to Louisville and Indiana, the Aggies had their toughest test Wednesday night in #4 Stanford and man did they deliver. The Aggies were firing on all cylinders with a well balanced attack that I begged for last preview. 4 Aggies were in double digit kills led by Stowers with 15, Sharp with 13, Morris with 12, and Ring with 10. The Aggies hit .344 on the match against a powerful and dominant Stanford defense. The Aggies also had 7 aces led by Gabi Rodriguez's 4 in a night where she was spectacular on defense. The serving was better, the passing was better, and the setting was amazing by Kirra Musgrove who had 44 assists. This is what we should expect from our Aggies.
Across the court we'll have a unique team in the Badgers. They lost a lot of players in the offseason to graduation and the portal. They signed the number one recruiting class with 9 freshman. However they are built around Charlie Feurbringer, one of the best setters and players in the ncaa. She is an excellent setter, but there's only so much you can do if the passing is off. We need to challenge their back row with tough serves. They also have one of the best middles in the country in Jaela Auguste however she has missed the last 4 games. Wisconsin also hasn't had a game since last Thursday so they will be rested so I assume Auguste will be available. They have been relying on a lot of young but talented pins. One thing of note is they have switched their lineup around a lot. For our sakes I hope not, but Friday night could be the much anticipated debut of Wisconsin freshman outside hitter Decelise Champion. The 16 year old from Peurto Rico who arrived a couple weeks ago to Madison. She's 6'6 and has an extremely powerful swing. I'd hate for her debut to be in Aggieland, but I'd love to spoil it for them.
Friday will be a huge test for us. I'm excited to see us back on our home court and in front of our fans. The Reed Rowdies will be going crazy, the band will live, the DJ rocking, and our girls playing at their absolute best. Wisconsin may be a blue blood, but we showed all the blue bloods who we are last December. Although this is a new team, new lineup, new year, we are back. We are so back.
