I would say 6 figures can get you someone ELITE ELITE from the portal. But it shouldn't take so much to get an all conference type transfer.

Most other girls are just looking for a different situation.

You can have some come in and play really well

Look at Texas this last match ....that team had at least three freshamn on the floor and while obviously very good freshman they didnt have the collective fight that Louisville Nebraska and TAMU had this past weekend

I would say we will depending on the roster takes some licks next year replacing most of a starting lineup and rotation but I have seen some of the girls play at the club open level and am certain we will be good for years to come. Middle next year will be the biggest worry and I think we will need at least one transfer from the portal in that position

I'll bump the 2026 recruiting thread for those to see. I think the Libero/defensive specialists Gabi Rodriguez and Jenna Thedford will have the best chance at getting on the court. A position of need like mentioned above will be middle and we are bringing in one in Lolufe Adedeji. But we'll have room for about 4-5 portal additions, possibly even grab an international player. So we might not have to rely on the freshman so much, we can allow them today develop and grow

People are saying Ags are making a push for 6'4 Middle out of Ohio State Kaia Castle. Had 7 games with 10 kills and averaged 0.88 blocks a set.

Had 7 kills against Nebraska in her last game. Ohio State won 6 games the entire year, maybe she flourishes more on a much better team! Her home state Minnesota is expected to be a factor among other Big 10 teams. She's a redshirt freshman and will have 3 years left to play.

Her along with opposite Paityn Chapman or middle Kiki Granberry would be some solid adds that I would love!

She was really bad in their match against Nebraska. Couldn't even keep a ball in play. Although she is a freshmen, not really sure she would be an upgrade anywhere

Did she not play at all this year? I could swear she played early in the season.

Edit: Answered my own question. She's played in 24 sets so she can't redshirt.

Yeah she looked awful against Nebraska, but like I mentioned last page, some school is most likely going to over pay for her because of her name. She did play well in conference for a lot of games, but against the weaker teams in the Big 12

That's another key issue that needs to be discussed in volleyball. In football you get 4 games and you retain your redshirt, in volleyball you play a set and you burn your redshirt. Which I think is awful. There should be a minimum number of sets played.

On the other forum they were discussing this because a talented freshman lost her redshirt after going in for a couple points in one of the last matches of the regular season

Yeah - not sure why football gets special rules. Well, i know why football gets special rules. He who has the gold makes the rules.

With open transfers it ramps up the risk to the schools to preserve redshirts.

Basketball used to have a 30% rule or something similar. If you played in 30% or less of the games that year you could get a redshirt. This is going back, but it's why Derrick Roland couldn't get a redshirt the year he'd got his leg destroyed in the preseason.

I hope still being in the NC hunt doesn't make us lose out on possible transfers. There is very little time this week to do anything before the FF match.

Kansas recruited 3 international players since they hired a coach late, all 3 are in the portal!

Hopefully portal recruits are paying attention. It bothers how fast some get in the portal and jump to a school within a couple days. Aside from tampering and all that, I don't get why players don't take their time. There's always moving pieces and they should find a program that wants them not one that's forcing them to make a decision! Last year there were some big names going in the portal well after the final four.
