Days Till Selection Sunday: 4

Howdy my volleyball friends, I thought I'd make a thread for us to discuss where we stand and where we're projected to be in the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. With only 3 games to go in the regular season and a conference tournament, I want to be able to discuss scenarios as well as tell you all which. outcomes favor us and who we need to root for and against. For those new to the sport, NCAA Volleyball ranks the top 32 seeds and the top 16 teams all host the first and second round matchups at their home campus. The top 4 overall seeds will host the sweet sixteen and elite eight. Right now. we are currently projected and well suited to host a first and second round matchup at Reed Arena.

We have a huge RPI win against tu, as well as at Tennessee, a neutral site against Minnesota, Rice, Missouri and Utah are wins we have that are top 50 wins. Our losses are against top ten teams Kentucky and SMU, and a top 20 team in TCU. Our next remaining games are all against solid teams. At Auburn (52), Florida (34), and at home to Georgia (56). We'll also get to play in the conference tourney which will give us quality games. As of today we would have a double bye and face Mizzou in the first round, then Texas in the semis, with a potential championship matchup against Kentucky. So we'll have time to raise our RPI and pick up some solid wins.

I believe even with 1 or 2 more losses we'll have the opportunity to host. Going 3 for 3 to end the season and we may have an opportunity to be a 2 seed. Aside from the computer metrics, the eye test saw us. give tu their first loss and has seen us play strong to end the season.

Here is a very reputable projected bracket that releases every week. As of now it has us as the last 2 seed. We'd host UTRGV in round 1 and then play the winner of UTEP and Arizona in round 2. Then paired in a sweet sixteen matchup with Louisville and Elite 8 in the Nebraska Regional.

Thanks for doing this! So much information!

Thoughts are: let's avoid Nebraska at all cost! Also, SEC volleyball needs to pick it up. Very sad the B12 has more teams than us. That should never be in any sport ever!

Yeah I'm really surprised how awful the sec has been. Many of them took huge losses in the non conference play with some light schedules. I thought Mizzou and LSU were going to be borderline top 25 teams this year. The bottom of the conference is just really really bad. And yeah I just want to avoid Nebraska too lol

We will more than likely host on Dec 5 and 6th

Aggies have home womens bb game on wednesday the 3rd so that means the practice day they schedule the day before would not occur so we are likely hosting Dec 5 and 6th which could cause a conflict with SEC Football Championship we maybe in

If for the first time ever we make the sec tourney game in football, the ncaa better take that into consideration!

Also I'm sure our women's basketball games couldn't fill up college station middle school so we can move them to prep for the first and second round

Here's a website that unofficially updates RPI as it after every match…

NCAA wont care unless TAMU makes a request

And knowing how it works I can guarentee you we play 5th and 6th if we host which we should barring a complete collaspe

I can see us in the central time zone getting the 7pm game and the 9:00pm goes to Stanford if these games are televised

Yeah last year the SEC Championship was around 2:30, so hoping for a late volleyball match. Oh what a weekend that would be as an Aggie, here's hoping

Well we didn't get any help tonight lol, but tomorrow we root for

Mizzou over Kentucky and that's about it, maybe USC to lose but not really any important games coming tomorrow. But you could also argue we need our loss to be significant, but by God's miracle Kentucky loses two and we are SEC Champs

How do we avoid having to play Nebraska BEFORE the final four?

Be any other rank/overall seed than 8 or 16 lol. The latest credible bracketology had us at the 8 overall seed in Nebraska's regional.

So we need to win out and hope for a tiny bit higher! If all goes chalk and we're a 2 seed then we'll probably get an in state mid major like the Southland champ in round 1. Then an 7 seed to get to the sweet sixteen.

North Carolina over Stanford
NC State over Louisville
BYU over Arizona State
Penn State over Purdue
Virginia over SMU
Villanova over Creighton
And Florida over tu because why not

Latest bracketology has us as a 2 seed and number 8 overall. Would be a sweet sixteen matchup with Louisville and elite 8 with Nebraska… we need to move up some spots to avoid Nebraskas lol

I would think that if we beat Georgia and make it to the finals of SEC tournament that should do it.

We're done hoping for a #3 seed, right? As long as we beat Georgia on Sunday, shouldn't that be locked up by then?
billydean05
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think it would be an abomination of epic proportions to give the second best team in the SEC whose only losses have been on the road at TCU #15 rpi in 5 at top 10 SMU and home against top 5 Kentucky not a top 3 seed even if we lose to Georgia and first round of SEC tournament

How much will the committee care about teams that have already played meeting in the regional finals? (Us vs. sips / kentucky or nebraska vs creighton / stanford / purdue / pitt)?

I assume that it is like other NCAA playoffs where they will try to avoid teams from the same conference in the same regional.

yeah I think we're moving our way up. There's a lot of tough games in the Big 10 and ACC this weekend that hopefully go in our favor! Nebraska fans don't seem to want us there either so that means we're doing something right as a program

correct! I think we're locked into a top 3 seed and right now comfortably sitting at a 2! A win against Georgia to close out the year could lock us into a 2! Now it's about positioning and hopefully we can do some damage in the SEC tourney. The committee will love that we are playing really good volleyball as of now. We'll most likely get a tu rematch in the conference semis!

Newbie to volleyball - can someone please share how the games work for the 1st and 2nd round?

We'll be in CS for the Wednesday women's basketball game (I married a Ga Tech rambling wreck). So, we'll stay a few extra days to catch part of the volleyball tournament. We'll have to rush back Saturday morning for, hopefully, either the SEC or ACC football championships.
taylorswift13_
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah so there's a very very high chance we'll be hosting those first two rounds! They'll be played back to back days and as someone mentioned will probably be December 5th and 6th unfortunately so maybe you'll only get to chance game 1. The top 16 overall seeds all host 3 other teams for the first two rounds. So we'll have two games if we win the first which we'll be favored heavily in both. Tickets will go on sale probably on Selection Sunday. Teams and the bracket will be announced on ESPN at 5pm Sunday the 30th. By then we'll know the times and dates of the games

Not sure I understand the question, but rounds 1&2 are basically a single elimination tourney. 1 and 4 play and 2 and 3 play on day 1, winners of both play on day 2. Winner of day 2 will advance. Speculation is that because of basketball on Wednesday, our site will play Friday/Saturday to allow teams to practice on Thursday after Reed switches from Basketball to Volleyball

SMU beat #5 Stanford at their place. Does that change anything for us? I know they don't use the rankings.
taylorswift13_
How long do you want to ignore this user?
SMU was firmly a 2 seed already so they'll likely stay ahead of us. Stanford picked up a huge win over Pitt a few days ago so it'll be interesting! The argument could be made to move them over us cause of their win over Pitt, but hopefully the loss can mitigate that. The ACC teams still have 3 or 4 more games. So chaos will ensue and hopefully some upsets in our favor.

1 seeds as of now are Nebraskas, Kentucky, Texas, and Pitt

Fighting for a 2 is SMU, Stanford, Arizona State, Texas A&M, Purdue, Creighton and maybe Wisconsin. I think right now we're a 2 seed, but the most reliable bracket people have us as the last 2 seed. I want to move up to avoid Nebraska at all costs.
