This video is long and rambling and can get a bit technical but well worth the watch while working on charts and paperwork.

The purpose of vaccines is to keep people out of hospitals, rather than massively suppressing cases...which it does. Ask Portugal.

The vaccines use polyclonal technology...thus the antibodies you make from vax are more likely to catch COVID mutants than natural immunity.

The Omicron variant is still hijacking ACE2 (angiotensin converting enzyme II), which normally makes a protective truncated form of angiotensin II. That means angiotensin II/Ang II ratio is still high with substantial potential for lung, heart, and brain damage even if subclinical (or clinical).

I'd encourage anyone to get a booster.

Disclosure: I have a PhD and study angiotensin II receptors. One of my brothers is an infectious disease doc. who worked in the White House.

We're all getting Covid in one form or more.

If you've beat it naturally - you're pretty much golden
If you've had 1+ doses - you've removed most of the "novel" risk
If you're not old or unhealthy - you've fine

Boosters may delay the inevitable, but they also may get in the way of your body building a strong response to a more recent strain. I don't see the point unless your body is frail and you plan to live on them indefinitely.

Another minor early data point-- this is with Pfizer showing really poor efficacy with 2 shots and "up to" 75% within days of getting a booster vs Omicron.

Pfizer Course Has 23% Efficacy Vs. Omicron in S. African Study (msn.com)

Again I'm still in the wait and see camp with the race for an omicron specific booster vs how fast it becomes the dominant strain in the USA and if it is even worth worrying about if the decreased virulence holds true with the unhealthy USA population.

Agree with all of the above. Big concern is if (big if) Omicron spreads rapidly and evades vaccines (to a point), then the sheer volume of folks getting infected might produce a large enough subset of seriously Ill to overwhelm hospitals. Hopefully that won't be the case.

South Africa has the same number of cases as delta and 25x less deaths. We will be fine.

The only point of slight concern is South Africa's life expectancy is 10 years younger than ours, so their situation may not exactly translate.

But we have way way more vaccinated people. Omicron might be exactly what we need to stop the unnecessary fear and move on.

I predict you will be sorely disappointed. Too many people benefit from the fear.

Both mRNA vaccines have been strongly linked to this issue.
Isn't COVID19 also strongly (more so than either mRNA vaccine) linked to myocarditis?

These: "I got vaccinated and got Covid, was really just like a cold, so vaccine didn't work" posts really crack me up.

The vaccine is designed to lessen your chances of getting covid, but more importantly it is designed to lessen your symptoms if you get covid.

So if you contracted covid after getting the vaccine, and had a minor case, then the vaccine worked! Would you have had a minor case without the vaccine? Maybe. Did you have a minor case with the vaccine? yes.

The vaccine lessens your chances of getting if covid? Ummm… no. You get the virus regardless. How your body reacts to having the virus is a different topic. It helps lessen the sickness, which is great.

This vaccine is a therapeutic.

This is not true. Unvaccinated are about 5x more likely to get it. Quit spreading misinformation like this.

All this for mortality of " A lower percentage of deaths (0.2%, 24) occurred among fully vaccinated persons than among partially vaccinated (0.5%, seven) and unvaccinated (0.6%, 176) persons (p<0.001".

200 of 100,000 vaccinated died. 600 of 100,000 unvaccinated died.

And 25% of those numbers - from people with HIV, cancer and liver transplants.

" Death investigations determined that six of the 24 fully vaccinated persons who died had immunocompromising conditions, including HIV infection, cancer (i.e., prostate, pancreatic, lung, or leukemia), and liver transplantation"

What's the 3 year mortality rate for pancreatic cancer patients? What about liver transplant patients?

The governments' messaging and course of action has been negligent, irresponsible and horrific - including the Trump administration.

More data showing current vaccines are not fantastic against Omicron. The big question is how severe will it be in our unhealthy US population? I still strongly expect Omicron specific boosters early in 2022.

Study of Omicron variant shows its less severe | kagstv.com

Quote:

A two-dose Pfizer/BioNTech vaccination appeared to provide just 33% protection against infection during South Africa's current omicron wave, but 70% protection against hospitalization, according to the analysis conducted by Discovery Health, South Africa's largest private health insurer, and the South African Medical Research Council.

If you had JJ or Pfizer, I'd get a Moderna booster now!

If Moderna shots, i'd wait a month or 2 to see what is offered.

As I said it depends on your specific situation. Ask your doctor. I'm not being snarky it is a complex decision. If in doubt opt on the side of safety and get a booster.
