Things to keep in mind for people solely focused on using deaths as an outcome metric for COVID
Daily dose of fear porn and misleading stats. If it was that common as those numbers indicate, this would be all over the news and we would all hear about it.
Out of everyone I know that's had covid, I know one person with long-haul symptoms, and even those I question because she still goes out late at night partying but then says she long-haul symptoms randomly get her.
Not trying to argue with you, but look at long hauler groups on facebook and reddit. Lots and lots of people with similar long haul stories. Also, there has been lots of news coverage about long haulers since last year. Do a google search.
And they're virtually all self reported symptoms.
I've said for a very long time now that the vast majority of people experiencing "long COVID" symptoms are creating the symptoms in their head. It's not that their COVID infection from months ago is still somehow causing "brain fog" or "anxiety" it's that they're so certain that they have "long COVID" that they make themselves feel it. Same reason why so many report the symptoms go away after they get vaccinated. They're so certain/hopeful that the vaccine will make it go away that they get the shot and poof, symptoms are gone.
Anecdotal example: several years ago I began feeling really weird feelings in my chest. High pulse, heart palpitations, pins and needles, etc. I felt it for weeks and began feeling like I was on the verge of a heart attack any minute since it was only getting worse. I saw a heart palpitation occur while I was watching my heart rate and immediately scheduled a dr. appt for the next morning. The doctor went over everything, said the ol' ticker sounded good, and when the bloodwork came back she told me I had particularly high levels of good cholesterol and particularly low levels of bad cholesterol which put me at very low risk of a heart attack.
Never had those symptoms since. My mind created them because I was freaking myself out, just like the majority of people with "long COVID" are just freaking themselves out and creating their own symptoms.
