Yep, Im a 17 month covid long hauler, Ive experienced all of those symptoms + much more. Theres a few other long haulers that Ive seen post here and there. The longest long haulers Ive heard of are at 20 months.

The mental items....I know there is discussion of brain fog etc but I have to wonder if anxiety and depression are in part due to people living in constant fear for 2 years and only seeing the worst of this disease...then they get it...and they freak out....assume they are basically a death sentence for the rest of their life....

I think if I was a 17+ month long hauler I'd be depressed too.

I doubt that. The virus and resulting inflammation affects the nervous system (eg; loss of taste and smell; headaches; cognitive impairment; seizures, etc), so I wouldn't be surprised if it also causes mental health issues

Literally in the summary:
Quote:

Findings suggest that persistent physical symptoms after COVID-19 infection should not be automatically ascribed to SARS-CoV-2
Quote:

The findings of this cross-sectional analysis of a large, population-based French cohort suggest that persistent physical symptoms after COVID-19 infection may be associated more with the belief in having been infected with SARS-CoV-2 than with having laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 infection
LONG COVID DOES NOT EXIST.

But let's continue....

Quote:

Although the participants were aware of the serology results when they reported having had COVID-19 infection or not, less than half of those with a positive serology test reported having experienced the disease.
ooo.... The world's most deadly disease where 50% of the people didn't even know they had it.

Do you even understand the study you posted?

In this systematic review, more than half of COVID-19 survivors experienced PASC 6 months after recovery. The most common PASC involved functional mobility impairments, pulmonary abnormalities, and mental health disorders. These long-term PASC effects occur on a scale that could overwhelm existing health care capacity, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

So they expect us to believe that 50% of all covid survivors in the study had long haul symptoms? Or that 50% of the long haulers had symptoms 6 months after infection? I think it's been established that long haul covid issues are still rare.

If they are insinuating the former, than that seems REALLY high. I know many that had covid. Very few had any long term effects except some with taste and smell issues perhaps. Things like this can make many overestimate their risk with Covid, as I am afraid too many already do considering that there are some still mitigating heavily to this day as if it were May 2020 when they are not in any at risk category. Now maybe they live with those with serious comorbidities so I could understand. But it seems way too many are just scared. Things like this potentially (if I am reading it right) wouldn't help. Long haul, I thought, was more common than death and still serious enough to consider the vaccine but not enough to say that 50% will have them.

Am I off base here?

Daily dose of fear porn and misleading stats. If it was that common as those numbers indicate, this would be all over the news and we would all hear about it.

Out of everyone I know that's had covid, I know one person with long-haul symptoms, and even those I question because she still goes out late at night partying but then says she long-haul symptoms randomly get her.

Well, I have had tinnitus since August 2020. It sucks. Thanks COVID.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/covid-can-cause-strange-eye-and-ear-symptoms/?amp=true

Hearing and balance changes can also be signs of SARS-CoV-2 infection, says Zahra Jafari, an audiologist and cognitive neuroscience at the University of Lethbridge in Alberta. In a 2021 meta-analysis, she and her colleagues found dizziness or vertigo in 12 percent of COVID patients, a ringing in the ear known as tinnitus in 4.5 percent and hearing loss in 3 percent. One hypothesis of how SARS-CoV-2 might affect the ears, she says, is that inflammation caused by the virus may directly impact the auditory system. The virus could also invade a barrier between the bloodstream and inner ear.

Makes sense. One of my constant long haul covid symptoms is an ear ache. Oddly enough I never experienced vertigo/dizziness symptoms until after I got the second pfizer vaccine. Now I experience vertigo symptoms everyday. Before the vaccine I just had covid flu like symptoms.

And they're virtually all self reported symptoms.

I've said for a very long time now that the vast majority of people experiencing "long COVID" symptoms are creating the symptoms in their head. It's not that their COVID infection from months ago is still somehow causing "brain fog" or "anxiety" it's that they're so certain that they have "long COVID" that they make themselves feel it. Same reason why so many report the symptoms go away after they get vaccinated. They're so certain/hopeful that the vaccine will make it go away that they get the shot and poof, symptoms are gone.

Anecdotal example: several years ago I began feeling really weird feelings in my chest. High pulse, heart palpitations, pins and needles, etc. I felt it for weeks and began feeling like I was on the verge of a heart attack any minute since it was only getting worse. I saw a heart palpitation occur while I was watching my heart rate and immediately scheduled a dr. appt for the next morning. The doctor went over everything, said the ol' ticker sounded good, and when the bloodwork came back she told me I had particularly high levels of good cholesterol and particularly low levels of bad cholesterol which put me at very low risk of a heart attack.

Never had those symptoms since. My mind created them because I was freaking myself out, just like the majority of people with "long COVID" are just freaking themselves out and creating their own symptoms.

Can you imagine being so dense to discount the experience of so many people because it doesn't fit your narrative? These same probably think only 10,000 people have died from this. These same people tell ICU nurses they didn't experience what they did.

Every drug and treatment has something called a number needed to treat and a number needed to harm. If your doctor ignores those numbers, or isn't aware of them, then doesn't sound like he's really doing the best job he could be doing. Maybe he's more in the customer service business.

I haven't had covid but I may have developed the top two issues over the last 20 months. The lack of mobility can be just as easily explained by everyone WFH, social isolation, gym closures, and athletic activities being disrupted. I would question the causation vs correlation immediately
