I saw on Fox News a released study by Oxford on a sample of 40,000 folks who had Covid. Mild cases vs severe hospitalized. Brain scans done on all and it showed substantial decrease of gray matter in the frontal and another lobe in the brain on both mild and severe cases. Pointing out it was the same no matter how mild the case was.
They used a large control group with people that had never tested positive as comparisons.
They said the particular lobes involved could
result in memory and cognitive loss later in life for all.
Anybody have or read any additional data on this?
My doctor actually told me about similar about three weeks ago.

I think some people get "brain fog" and it probably warrants further study, but this research seems kinda iffy. Calling it "substantial" and classifying mild and severe cases the "same" just sounds like entertainment news fear mongering.

I'd like to know which part of the virus is responsible. Is it the spike proteins causing damage to epithelial cells or micro-clotting causing small pathway blockage.

Yep. I want to know if vax protects against it. I know quite a few people who had mild to moderate Covid cases fully vaxxed...and a couple that had severe cases...one guy almost died. Will be interesting to see if they are somehow spared the deterioration to the gray matter symptom because they had a vaccine.

Can you imagine if it came out that just getting Covid (even vaxxed) gave you a high chance of brain damage/memory loss later in life? That would be extremely demoralizing for pretty much everyone in the world.

We thought we had seen conspiracy theories before, if this brain damage stuff is true, these are naturally going to run rampant.

I did have brain fog during Covid. Only thing I can notice might be Tinnitis seems louder in my right ear.

Well, when you consider the vaccine creates the same spike protein, that'd be pretty terrible. There's a word for tumor growth caused by perpetual epithelial tissue damage (like from smoking). Docs can remind us of it when they get here.

You would think the millions of us who have gotten the vaccine would be complaining about brain fog if the vaccine caused it, wouldn't you?

On the other hand, if you get a bad case, it seems you can pretty much count on it.

The OP referenced possible cognitive and memory issues "later in life". Seems similar to how CTE can manifest much later in life (see Jr. Seau). I know a lot of people who had asymptomatic to flu-like cases of Covid and haven't heard anyone mentioning lingering brain issues or fog.

With regards to your bolded part...you can pretty much count on temporary brain damage or permanent if you get a tough case of Covid?

Brought this up in the spring. I have 2 coworkers that were noticably less mentally capable after having covid. They didn't become special needs but they definitely weren't the smartest guys in the room anymore

well this is a bummer since we're all going to get covid likely multiple times over the course of our lives

It's a shame. I'm a covid long hauler and when I'm experiencing symptoms I become a lot dumber lol. My brain doesn't function properly, hard to articulate thoughts, memory issues, forgetting common words, pausing when speaking, trouble doing basic math or solving simple problems at work etc. Im definitely not as sharp and I'm much slower when I'm experiencing symptoms.

I'm sure I come across like an idiot to most people. I've heard audio recordings of myself speak and Im like wow I can't believe this is how I sound haha. I basically turn into a 36 year old Joe Biden when I speak lol.
