Yup that announcement is dated July 30, 2021 so it is a fairly new recommendation.

ETA: it is also possible that this OB had a bad outcome with COVID recently so that may have made her more enthusiastic about vaccine.

He did. I agree also but want the doc to use facts and not emotions. Which is why I am asking.

maybe she already has Anitibodies and the little baby gets it through breastmilk

There was a time back in the 80s when they said Formula is superior to breastmilk, it has vitamins and all that. now natural breastmilk is known to have immune system libraries passed to babies.

Women gave birth for hundreds, even thousands, of years without epidurals, pain medicine of any kind, hospitals, or even doctors. Why add those variables? Or do you believe all women should give birth at home with their next-door neighbor in attendance and no prenatal care to speak of?

Yep and my wife and or son would be dead right now if not for modern medicine and an emergency c-section. Less than a week from delivery my son was head down ready to go.

Wife goes into labor all is good. Progressing fine. Doctor breaks her water. Feels around and it turns out in the matter of 4 days he had turned breach.

In the "good old days", one or both would have been dead.

Thankfully we have modern medicine and vaccines.

Anecdote, but make of it what you will. And, FWIW, there are several posters on this board who have other anecdotes to share.

She needs to make the decision she can live with. If she will never forgive herself if she has a weird side effect and baby is harmed, skip it, take some leave and isolate till labor or continue precautions and work. If she finds the thought of getting covid and the associated risk worse, take the vaccine.

I just had a sore arm and headache after moderna shot #1 but the second shot was intense- fever, shaking chills for days and impressive lymphadenopathy under my arms. Sometimes physical stress kick starts labor. I'd put it off for 1-2 weeks till baby is closer to done and nicu risk goes down more if she does get it before delivery.

Microbes have kicked humanity's ass for most of human history. Indoor plumbing, chlorinated water, cooking with a flame, and yes - vaccines are the biggest variables that have shifted the game in our favor to a degree that we are likely to live to have grey hair.

But you do your thing.

Wife had covid st 6.5 months. No issues with baby. Wife had a fever off and on for 2 or 3 days and some aches and pains. Worst part about it is that she got it Christmas week and that's her favorite day of the year. The kid is unbelievably adorable. Probably a side effect of covid

Its a weird virus affects all differently it seems and no one can explain that.

A lot of positive vaxx stories so ill share mine.

3 nurses all vaxxed all pregnant all lost their babies.

Was it the vax who knows.

The fact that her MD has done an apparent 180 on the matter (I assume it was discussed well before 35 weeks) based on a single, personal case tells me something.

Well, your sister could have simply asked her OB for an explanation. It would have probably helped more than a response from an internet forum.

It should tell you he is keeping up with science. It is a new recommendation (6 weeks old) from the ACOG.

There seems to be a pretty significant difference between Alpha and Delta and how it affects pregnant women.

Can't think of a single pregnant or new mother we admitted to a Covid unit over the winter. Not saying it didn't happen, but I don't recall a single case. Had two pregnant coworkers who got it over the winter and they did just fine.

With this Delta surge, personally been in room for three intubations of new moms and admitted two more pregnant women who's babies were lost in utero. There's some thing about Delta.

Doctors and nurses were pushing it HARD to us when wife was 5-6mo pregnant. Fully knowing we had fully recovered from Covid in the past. We said if you dont recommend it for teens and children, HELL NO. They looked dumbfounded, almost like WE were the stupid ones. "But it's free and completely safe and we can do it right now".

Lost so much respect for doctors through all of this. They still to this day all seem to be convinced that these POS cloth masks keep us safe, which science shows they do not at all.
