Texas letting delta rip all summer probably will help with keeping transmission at football games down.

You mean, Texas obtaining natural immunity quicker, and finally stopping trying to play god after 19 months for the first time in human history despite surviving and prospering through far worse diseases? All this after a widespread vaccine is out, making all the more sense to stop any restrictions? Yeah. I like that wording better.

I swear, some of you probably wish we were locked in our homes 23 hours a day, and had to triple mask with N95s when we did get "let out".

What is it exactly that you wish Texas would have done this summer, that the people wouldn't have said F*** it to anyways, and done their own thing regardless? Texans had enough, and WE THE PEOPLE decided what we were going to do. Long ago.

To be a bit fair....not that we should be fair anymore...the last 2 days Texas has had pretty high case numbers...one day was catch-up in reporting but hard to say both were...the 7 day average is going up a bit.

Still hopeful we will get past this soon and burden on hospitals will lower....

Edit: Pro packed-stadiums. Pro everything non-mask related.

I wish that everyone in Texas would have gotten vaccinated this summer, so a lot more of them would be alive. We are 90% vaccinated where I live and delta has barely been a blip.

You mean the place where vaccines have been shown to keep people alive and out of the hospital?

Seems like Texas should have considered that.

I am talking about the place where Delta is real and putting vaccinated (and unvaccinated) people in the hospital...Vaccinated dying? Not as much. Sick? definitely. Burden on hospitals? Yes.

They are not doing a 3rd / 4th booster b/c things are going so smoothly....

But Israel seems to be an outlier. The UK is not having the same experience as Israel.

And I haven't been able to find what % of vaccinated Israelites are being hospitalized. Do you have that data?

Seems to be an upward trend on the fully and partially vaccinated....let's wait and see how the data plays out in a few more weeks...

No one promised a huge spike in cases. People were urged to be cautious.

Luckily most of these games were outdoors. It's very difficult (if not impossible) to catch COVID-19 outdoors even if people are stacked on top of each other.

Just two more weeks? R0 is falling in Israel, so you may have to wait a while.

Two more weeks is the daddy government metric...not mine.

We will see...but dont assume high vaccination rate = no issues.

Israel was the earliest to roll it out and used Pfizer. So the leakiest vaccine in terms of preventing infection and the longest time since patients were vaxxed (waning immunity).

Wait until winter for the UK it's seasonal. Israel is hot in the summer like TX so everyone is indoors.
Then how do you explain the huge spike in cases in the UK?

Here's a chart showing the difference between the UK and Israel (other highly vaccinated countries are more similar to the UK than to Israel, too, btw):

Bryan/College Station has never cracked 50% based on the reported data. As of this morning it was 49.1% of all Brazos County residents. Of course how one is defining a resident here is an open question.

It's a different thread, but the evidence for waning immunity is actually really weak right now.

The vaccine is less effective against delta, and it's really hard to deconvolute the two things. I don't think we should be rolling out boosters until there is a specific one for delta. (Israel is planning that for shot 4)

So the booster that our federal government is pushing is likely not needed as broadly as they said about a month ago?

What is that chart showing? How does Israel have more hospitalizations than cases for most of the period being shown? Am i mis-reading??

high vaccination rate does equal very very little issues. That is verifiable. It's the unvaccinated that are filling ICUs. Sad, and wish more would get vaxed. And I completely believe that mandates will only make things worse as it's the individual's personal decision how to handle this. To me, that trumps whether that might effect another person's situation in this particular situation. You're asking someone to put a vaccine into their body. To admonish or shame them for not feeling comfortable is a massive part of the issue....

Is what it is. I'm with Beerad12man on all of this. I don't mask. Hell, I refuse to acknowledge the virus at this point. I will pretty much refuse to test even unless it's straight obvious I have the damn thing, which I won't as I'm super-immune.

Good question. My guess is that there are significantly different numbers for cases and hospitalizations but he failed to put or show both on the Y-axis. The point he is trying to make is the differences and separation of the curves in the two countries.

He's not wrong if one looks at any data source for either country.

Fauci most certainly said it would likely happen. I guess since he said "likely" he didn't technically promise?

Correct. Biden (like the government of Israel) is trying to do "something" about delta because approval ratings move in conjunction with the publics feelings about how the pandemic is going.

In the US we could improve things by getting the rest of adults their first shots. Israel already did that, so on to shot three for "doing something". It was won't hurt, but there isn't much evidence that it will help either.

Fair points but I would assume you see how that is wrong (re: additional boosters).

They need to be operating based on science and not feelings / sentiment....

I haven't seen anybody, anywhere talk about a huge spike of COVID cases so large that it would be traced back to College football. The level of our community's immunity is in a very different place than it was last year. I feel like there's a lot of projection going on. Do I think there will be more COVID cases because of crowds at college football than there would have been otherwise? Absolutely. But cases aren't what matters anymore, and we'll have to learn how to live with COVID.

Those who want to get the vaccine, have it. Those that don't, don't. It's called being an adult. Time to move on.

Israel's roll out is different than the US. They have one to three shots. Their "dashboard" is complex but informative.

Here's a link to their dashboard, and it's in Hebrew or English.

https://datadashboard.health.gov.il/COVID-19/general

Here's an article on one person's interpretation of the data and spreadsheets.

https://www.covid-datascience.com/post/israeli-data-how-can-efficacy-vs-severe-disease-be-strong-when-60-of-hospitalized-are-vaccinated

Israel uses the term "impulse" vaccination. I am not a medical person, but I think it means vaccinating doses over time instead of a singe dose. Here's a link to "impulse" vaccinations:

If you are reading news sites where there was a promised huge spike in cases (or news sites that claimed the major consensus would be a huge spike in cases) then you should be more discerning about where you get your news.
