Which posters with break through cases have been hospitalized? Seems those in the hospital are those who have acknowledged being unvaccinated. The vaccine is keeping people out of the hospital in all it's forms but I am glad I got Moderna.
Half of Israel's Hospitalized are Unvaccinated
Quote:
The bad news, doctors say, is that half of Israel's seriously ill patients who are currently hospitalized were fully vaccinated at least five months ago.
Quote:
Israel was the first country on Earth to fully vaccinate a majority of its citizens against COVID-19. Now it has one of the world's highest daily infection rates an average of nearly 7,500 confirmed cases a day, double what it was two weeks ago. Nearly one in every 150 people in Israel today has the virus.
This is from the article you referenced;
Quote:
The good news is that among Israel's serious infections on Thursday of this week, according to Health Ministry data, the rate of serious cases among unvaccinated people over age 60 (178.7 per 100,000) was nine times more than the rate among fully vaccinated people of the same age category, and the rate of serious cases among unvaccinated people in the under-60 crowd (3.2 per 100,000) was a little more than double the rate among vaccinated people in that age bracket.
The bad news, doctors say, is that half of Israel's seriously ill patients who are currently hospitalized were fully vaccinated at least five months ago. Most of them are over 60 years old and have comorbidities. The seriously ill patients who are unvaccinated are mostly young, healthy people whose condition deteriorated quickly.
https://www.covid-datascience.com/post/israeli-data-how-can-efficacy-vs-severe-disease-be-strong-when-60-of-hospitalized-are-vaccinatedThe Israel hospitalization and vaccination situation has been referenced many times on many threads. This article actually shows detailed data. I don't post screen images, so I am summarizing one of the tables below. The numbers look quite different when you adjust the groups "per 100K".
.
It's a short read and
the author even gives several caveats about the quality of the data. I would encourage anyone to at least open the link and look at the tables. They are not that big and can be easily displayed on a cell phone. One table is broken down by more detailed age groups.
The vaccine is not perfect, but it most certainly is keeping people out of the hospital.
A quote from the author:
Quote:
I have seen this statistic of "nearly 60% of Israeli hospitalized COVID-19 patients are fully vaccinated" mentioned in numerous media reports and social media posts, for example see here.
From many, I have seen this statistic used as evidence to support a narrative suggesting vaccines don't work or have lost their effectiveness vs. severe disease, and I have seen other articles quote this type of figure as further evidence for the reduction of effectiveness of the vaccines in trying to justify 3rd shot boosters.
However, while these numbers are true, to quote them as evidence for low vaccine effectiveness is wrong and misleading. Sometimes, with observational data there is confounding of multiple factors that can make it easy to misinterpret simple percentages like this, and the current vaccination situation in Israel brings a perfect storm of confounding factors that lead to confusion if not thought through carefully.
And a 30,000ft view for the TL;DR crowd.
