When is this one supposed to be available nationwide? This is the only one I am willing to take. I refuse to take any of the rest.

Because I won't inject mRNA into my body and refuse to use vaccines developed from aborted fetuses. Regardless it doesn't matter why, that's unrelated to my question. I am curious from someone more knowledgeable than me about when it might be available. They said late July or Q3, but does anyone know the exact timeline?

Does it involve less risk than the current ones? I have not heard of this.

10 bucks says you have already and don't know about it.

Based on Novavax's phase 3 clinical trials, their COVID-19 vaccine appears to have a substantially lower rate of side effects than the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines.

Yes, they just released the results and it has way less side effects while remaining as effective. It will be most useful in 3rd world countries since it can be stored at room temperature.

This is interesting. Did you just look at the raw results or did you find a good summary of comparison?

Plus it based on a more familiar vaccine technology. Per an article in The Atlantic last month: "the protein-subunit approach used by Novavax was first implemented for the hepatitis B vaccine, which has been used in the U.S. since 1986. The pertussis vaccine, which is required for almost all children in U.S. public schools, is also made this way."

I should have put the source.

I'm definitely interested in this one.

efficacy of this vaccine is about the same as the mRNA ones, it's easier to distribute, and is developed similar to previous common vaccines. Why was this vaccine not rolled out first?

The ones that were rolled out first were the companies who were best at getting through the clinical trials efficiently. This concept is described in the Atlantic article.

I'm surprised that this vaccine isn't making the news more. The EU just signed a deal to buy 200 million doses, contingent on it getting approved in the EU. Why is the US ignoring this?

I know a lot of people who are hesitant to take the currently available vaccines but would definitely take this one, just like the OP. If the government wanted to boost vaccination rates, they would be promoting this more traditional vaccine, or at least talking about it.

This would be the only vaccine I would consider taking but it doesn't look like it will be in the US for awhile. There's is an oversupply/lack of demand for the other brand of vaccines already here, so they likely won't add another one, even know it is different from the others.

UNLESS, surveys and information show they can close the unvaccinated gap with this specific vaccine. Of course, the government would have to get out of Pfizer's back pocket first.

I agree but with this administration, that is unlikely. Maybe they will prove me wrong.

This didn't have shiny new tech. Big pharma wanted to push mRNA to move it forward, they didn't want the "old" tech even though it is as effective.

Novavax is a big winner if they actually get it through at the end of September...

Traditional tech, as effective as pfizer, doesn't require your body to produce the spike (no crossing cell boundary) and delivery is a known quantity vs relying on your body to produce the right amount from the mRNA instructions.

It is weird that even this board doesn't really acknowledge it considering it's effectiveness. Although I'd expect the news not to cover it since they had to sell mRNA pretty hard. Would testing results be thrown off since it uses an actual virus? Would a booster not be required until quite some time later (like tetanus)?

It doesn't use the virus at all.

It uses a protein subunit. Basically they build a synthetic spike protein ball that resembles the virus close enough to trigger the needed immune response.

My bad. Is it akin to any other vaccines out there?

Hep B, Pertussis (whooping cough) and Mono vaccines use the tech. Been around since the '80s.
