Are we headed back for mask wearing mandates and restrictions again?

I've got two big family vacations coming up in a few months, one to Disney world in october, and another to Colorado in november. Starting to get a little concerned that we are going to end up back in the land of restrictions, shutdowns, and mandatory masks everywhere. We specifically waited for this October for our big Disney family vacation because we didn't want to have to wear a mask there.

Any thoughts? Talk me off the ledge here because I'm starting to get a little concerned.

Cases are going up in the unvaccinated population. If you're vaccinated I don't see why there should be a problem. Of course people use their masks more like a rosary than anything else so we could be in for more idiocy and outdoor mask wearing, who knows.

Of course it's coming back. Idiots fell in line the first time, why wouldn't they again?

In red states? I doubt it. Especially in Texas where Abbott faces a primary. If he mandates or allows mask mandates his political career is over.

I guess businesses could mandate them. Not sure if Greg can stop that. However just read the LA subreddit. Lots and lots of people are pissed about the masks. And we all know how liberal Reddit is so for the vast majority of them saying no I'd imagine the civil disobedience would be massive. I don't think people would fall in line as easily. Especially in Texas.

LA county reinstating mask requirements for all persons (including those that have been vaccinated) in indoor gatherings effective Saturday night. Can't say I'm surprised but am very saddened to see more government diktats being issued. Why wait until Saturday if it is a "public health" issue. The fear mongering by the media has been out of control lately.

Yes they are coming back.

Do not comply.

It's that simple.

Just remember:

November 2021 is only 4 months away . Which means we'll then be only 12 months away from the 2022 midterms

Hard-blue counties and cities (the "Jerusalem's" of the newfound mask religion) may have mask mandates every flu season from now on. But outside of those extremist pockets IMO the overriding narrative will stick to pumping up how "great" covid has been handled since late Jan 2021 (with all negative trends blamed solely on "anti-vaxers").as it has been all along, COVID will continue to be used in the most politically prudent way possible which today means no CDC/Fed level mask dog and pony show.

That would be the trick, finding some way to force compliance on states that refuse to do the right thing. Usually that would involve holding back federal funding for some things.

I'm not going back to mask wearing. The pandemic for me is over because I am vaccinated. And no mask mandate will work anymore anyway, even in liberal LA county.

But if my travel plans and concerts I'm going to get cancelled because of all these unvaccinated a-holes refusing to get vaccinated, I'm going to be pissed.

You could travel and go to concerts regardless of anyone else's vaccination status. Maybe if you re-directed your outrage and efforts (if any, outside just typing angrily on a message board) at the people who would actually prevent you from doing so it might actually accomplish something.

If others want to take on the risk of being unvaccinated; so be it. It shouldn't (and won't) impact my lifestyle and liberties. I am cool if they want to risk getting COVID; their personal choice. Hospitals and the medical system seem fine right now.

I care more about people getting sick than I do me getting to have leisure time. Though I have no control over a country closing its borders or a concert getting cancelled because of a rise in cases.

Probably wont happen, but I also thought the virus would be pretty much done by now and it isnt.

Yet in your post I responded to, you're griping about potential loss of leisure time and how the unvaccinated would be the root cause of it. They aren't, if you weren't able to do so it would be squarely on the backs of whatever government entity decided to prevent you from it. By your own words, you're vaccinated and the "pandemic is over for you", no one should be able to prevent you from traveling or going to concerts. Place the blame where it actually belongs and direct your anger towards them.

If someone has the vaccine...dies....then we should all not get the vaccine right? At that point it would be proven ineffective, right? Just like this one-off proves all kids that are 13 must get the vaccine or die.

Could be if people got vaccinated. The technology is there. Sadly, the personal decision making is not. We are a very flawed species indeed, and the curse is we are aware enough to understand just how flawed we are.

Virus is over for me. Has been for a long time.

ETA: I think by "personal decision making" you mean "group think mentality". It seems your beef is with people making personal decisions that suit them best.

When the only people being hospitalized for Covid at this point haven't been vaccinated there's really no guess work nor political interpretation for who is responsibility for keeping Covid alive.

I think you are just being obtuse but obviously if the unvaccinated took a more global approach and got the vaccine regardless of how healthy, young ,fit you deem yourself, Covid would indeed be nearly gone or inconsequential. Feeding on the unvaccinated, it is surging yet again.
You can place the blame on the government but to avoid your share is burying your head. Large scale gatherings, like sports and concerts are certainly again in play to be canceled.

I suppose it's human nature to gravitate towards tribalism, but I'm sort of burnt out on the "face diaper" and "everyone must vaccinate" crowds. If you're seething behind a keyboard because someone did or didn't wear a mask at Kroger, you have bigger issues than COVID-19.

I'm not being obtuse at all, I'm responding to his own words which have an element of truth to them. He's vaccinated, no one should be allowed to dictate what he can and cannot do. Just accepting that large scale gatherings are "of course" going to be cancelled is the primary issue, and one we can actually do something about. Not only because I believe at it's very core, a government overreach, but also because from a practical standpoint, at this moment in time, people who attend large scale gatherings have had the opportunity to vaccinate and made their own decisions. Get vaccinated, reduce your risks/exposure, or don't and accept the risks.

I never said large scale gathering will of course be cancelled, I said in play to be cancelled.

For those of us who are enjoying life normalizing, this wide spread increase in the virus is irritating because it will again put businesses (food, entertainment and supply chain in particular) in jeopardy and further effect the economy. There is really no such thing as a personal choice as it relates to Covid. All choices have public consequences..some for the benefit others not.

Luckily here there is plenty of choice to avoid any businesses that go all "freak out"

The refusal to get the vaccine to help end this completely by individuals in our society is a strange one. I have quite a few friends refusing and almost all of them repeat some garbage they find on the internet.

You're directing your blame at the wrong people. The virus doesn't threaten businesses, government overreaction does.
