Just remember:

November 2021 is only 4 months away . Which means we'll then be only 12 months away from the 2022 midterms

Hard-blue counties and cities (the "Jerusalem's" of the newfound mask religion) may have mask mandates every flu season from now on. But outside of those extremist pockets IMO the overriding narrative will stick to pumping up how "great" covid has been handled since late Jan 2021 (with all negative trends blamed solely on "anti-vaxers").as it has been all along, COVID will continue to be used in the most politically prudent way possible which today means no CDC/Fed level mask dog and pony show.
When the only people being hospitalized for Covid at this point haven't been vaccinated there's really no guess work nor political interpretation for who is responsibility for keeping Covid alive.

This

While the politicians are the ones who actually order the mask mandates and shutdowns, the unvaccinated are the ones getting covid and thus giving the politicians the ammunition to Reinstate mask mandates and shutdowns

The refusal to get the vaccine to help end this completely by individuals in our society is a strange one. I have quite a few friends refusing and almost all of them repeat some garbage they find on the internet.
The refusal by some to be able to get the vaccine for themselves, but then move on with their life and stop worrying whether others get it is a strange one to me. Death is and has always been all around us. Those dying of covid now are extremely low, and will continue to be. Not much more so than a normal respiratory year. If any more at all. Respiratory deaths take over 200k lives every year, and covid will no longer exceed those numbers.

9,000 Americans die a day, and we are suppose to freak out, and not end this on our own, over 250 from covid?

And this is coming from a person who got vaccinated early on, and even suggested it to a few of my friends. They said no. Okay, moving on.

lockdowns and masks are going to reappear this winter, if not sooner

it's going to take a normal cold and flu season to break the panic

Abbott reiterated masking is a personal choice yesterday.

It's going to take the chicken littles and tyrants getting shouted down, voted out, and generally overruled.

Not in Texas, period. 100% no lockdowns. Masks might make appearances here and there in certain areas like liberal Austin or Houston, but likely still be unenforceable.

it's probably going to take an election cycle as well

If this is still going on after November 2022 then mask will be pointless. Texas, thankfully, will never see masks again.

The more mask mandates / restrictions there are from here on out = the worse Nov 2022 is for the dems

So even if you're right, at least there's that consolation prize

Outside of the deepest blue pockets, there is absolutely not widespread support and understanding amongst *vaccinated* people to "sacrifice" for the good of people who could get vax'd and choose not to

How can a thread about mask mandates NOT be political?

Last time I checked, a mask didn't have a political party affiliation. That's what I'm referring to.

No, but mandates are only implemented by politicians. That's what I'm referring to.

....technically thats true....but on the other hand - find me even one republican/libertarian that has routinely worn a mask outdoors over the last year +.

You don't need to be hospitalized to catch covid, let it mutate and then pass it on.

Well Randolph AFB is all about masking up everywherevaccination status irrelevant. That did not last long. They are being very draconian about it too.

I have been told over and over again that the vaccine will not necessarily keep you from catching it, but make the symptoms less severe if you do.

Does the vaccine also keep it from mutating?
