Why would you not get a flu and COVID-19 vaccine shot? Cost? Inconvenient? Are there any other real (proven) downsides?

Idk why people refuse to get the flu shot. Most employers offer it for free.

Our entire Xmas plans this past year were flipped upside down because my wife got the flu. She was the only one in our house, and extended family, that didn't get a flu shot. Never again. Always vaccinate.

Laziness

The waiver request rate in fields/institutions where it is required every year (and usually they schedule a time and place for you to get it) is <10%. Surveys have always shown most will get it if it is free/cheap and convenient. Many just wont make a special trip to Walgreens or their doctor or wait in line at a nurse station set up at work.

I haven't had a shot or the flu in decades, but that probably is just anecdotal.

Laziness is just the most common reason, not the only reason.

I'm not sure it's fair to say that laziness is the main reason people don't get the flu shot. It was stubbornness for me.

My employer has nurses come to our office every year and I still refused to get it for a long time. I knew more people who had gotten the flu after having the flu shot than those who didn't. I also haven't had the flu since I was a teenager so I saw little need. My mother is in the high risk age range category and hasn't had a flu shot in her life. She came down with it last year and it nearly took her out... we also had friends both get it at the same time and the one who had the shot recovered in 2 days. His wife was out for nearly 10 and hasn't had one since college.

I got vaccinated at my annual physical this February for the the first time in 15 years after observing both of those cases.

Vaccine - yes.

My prediction is that a national vaccine registry will be created and employers, airlines, etc. will require proof of vaccination. Anti-vaxxers will fold like a cheap tent.
