Most of the deaths in Italy are a result of the hospitals being overrun. Only NYC is currently facing that issue, but its very very early. I pray that that doesnt happen here.
The denominator is going to continue to grow as we do more tests...thelaw4 said:Thats a 1.5 death rate, which is in line with the projections.FireAg said:That and it's not nearly as deadly as some said...Johnny2Fan said:

The positive tests are growing exponentially while the death rate is not...

The positive tests are growing exponentially while the death rate is not...
The problem is how people perceive "Exponential" vs what it really is. I had this discussion on the Politics Board. I am not a Math Nerd so I had to ask a lot of questions. What I have discovered is any "growth" is "Exponential" until it stops. The "rate" is what throws us off. Us non-math people think of "Exponential" in the vein of 1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128... Which I realize is just "doubling".Tbs2003 said:That is absolutely not true. on a log chart (option at the top of the chart). The straight line means it's exponential. The exponent is not quite as steep as for total cases (0.24 vs. 0.29), but it is catching up over time.
Tbs2003 already answered you, but since you seemed to have trouble reading log plots, maybe this will hone it in for you. I threw this chart together really quick. Red line is total deaths. Blue line is the # of days it took our total deaths to double. Since March 15th, it has doubled roughly every 2.6 days. That's kind of the definition of exponential, and you can see by the trend line, it's accelerating.FireAg said:Yes, yes it is...thelaw4 said:You hope its not, but the data is not currently suggesting that its notFireAg said:The denominator is going to continue to grow as we do more tests...thelaw4 said:Thats a 1.5 death rate, which is in line with the projections.FireAg said:That and it's not nearly as deadly as some said...Johnny2Fan said:

The # of hospital beds doesn't increase with the # of cases. People are really missing what this crisis is about. Corona, as a virus is not that deadly, Corona as a virus is extremely contagious.
It doesn't matter how bad your army is if you can simply overwhelm your opponent with shear #'s.

Have we not beat to death that there are MANY MANY cases out there that are not being tested.
So death rate is lower than 1.5.

Way too early to claim that we are winning this war.
