Thanks. I respect the actions being taken to mitigate this as much as possible, but I still think and hope this won't be nearly as bad as most are projecting. I also expect hundreds of thousands and into the millions of positives but a mortality rate under .5%.

What's the point of a secret trial?
hopefully the anti malarial drugs work hopefully the sick will be able to get them. Currently there is a run on the drugs so keeping it a secret seems like a good dea.
Cone - it is very similar to a flu test. Test looks for a specific protein or sequence of proteins specific to the virus. If you look on you tube on Cepheid it explains the process.
Either way it is great news. Hopefully they can scale up production and get more instruments in the field. Could be a game changer for many reasons.

Surgical masks are a lot less effective than respirators, but at this point, better than nothing. They're better at keeping things from getting out than things getting in. Mostly they're to protect the surgeon from getting fluids splattered in their mouths and nose.
Neither should be worn for more than a few hours, and that's the problem.

While the numbers are climbing most places China has stabilized some. EVEN IF, they are under reporting by 3X, their totals aren't horrible. Remember they have 1.5B people. I work with people in China and things aren't quite back to normal, but our co-workers are working again.
I don't know if this is viable or not...but just goes to show how open communication (as opposed to China's system where bad news is kept hidden)...and ingenuity are what makes America special.2PacShakur said:

This is good news. It frustrates me that our "Recovered" number is still so low.
Coworker and her family of 5 who got it while on vacation overseas are on the mend and no hospital trips. Only one had a fever. Said the trip was worth it, the worst part is the quarantine!

I wouldn't worry about our recovered numbers. I'm not sure how reliable it is and even what it means to be recovered. Does a person need to be tested again to be considered recovered? If so, we can't even test those that are sick, much less the ones that had it and got better.Catag94 said:

I believe the criteria for "recovered" is absence of fever and two consecutive negative tests. But tests are limited so we aren't wasting them on people who previously tested positive because right now all that matters is getting a handle on the true number of people who are actually infected.Bruce Almighty said:I wouldn't worry about our recovered numbers. I read that as a timing thing. See WA state. We have 124 (of the national 187) "recovered", but, of course, we were also the first cases. I'm guessing they're saying two weeks after test = recovered or something like that.Catag94 said:
