We have still gotten all food and other necessities for the week at our local HEB despite the hoarders (although I realize HEB has put limits in place at this point).

- Report out of Italy of 90% asymptomatic transmission would be potentially great news if true.

- Order taker at Chikfila drive thru told me "God bless, Jesus is always with you" and it's true.

- HEB is dang good at its job and my trip there the other day yielded most of what I wanted, and I encountered only polite, not panicky, patrons.

If you were to remove Washington, which was the earliest impacted area in regards to death, the mortality rate for the US is already below 1% and that is without knowing the true denominator, which would hopefully lower it even more.

Maybe I don't understand. Wouldn't asymptomatic transmission be bad news? Meaning that many people going about life now without symptoms, are transmitting the virus without knowing they are?

I don't want to sidetrack this thread but if 90% of the people are getting infected without any impact then we should build up our herd immunity very quickly and bring an end to the major danger much sooner than thought.

I'm no expert but I guess the idea is that while early one we were thinking that 10% of cases were critical, what we may be discovering is that there is a huge amount of cases that never show symptoms which lowers the critical % down closer to 1% and the mortality rate potentially well below 1%. The odds that an infection causes critical issues may be far lower than previously feared.

This would mean that "flattening the curve" should be less demanding I imagine.

I anticipate someone smarter than me to come along and tell me I'm wrong any moment now.

WHO spent a week in Wuhan testing for that very thing and didn't find it.

Maybe things have changed since then.

I work for a major medical distributor. Although we've seen a massive uptick in demand for medical supplies, we've had no issue filling all orders.

I would think based off the measures South Korea has taken, and the high number of tests they have, the best we can hope for is about a 1% mortality rate.

How is S Korea deciding who to test? Because the numbers I've seen are about a quarter million tests which is about 0.5% of their population. More than enough for a statistical analyses I would assume if the assumptions are correct but if they're avoiding asymptomatic people then they are not going to get that kind of response in their testing.
