Thanks for all the info given on this thread! I'm going to read more into it as I had a good friend test positive today.

My buddy seems to be at the beginning stages of it, his symptoms started yesterday (aches, cough, chills, stuffed nose), is around 30 yes old and not in the best shape. Thinks he contracted it 4 - 6 days prior to symptoms. What would you suggest he start taking to start to combat it? I sent him Vitamin C, D, Tylenol and fluids as he's quarantined and lives by himself. Is there anything else suggested for someone who just contracted it?
Quercetin and Zinc would potentially help him recover faster. It should slow down viral replication.

After 10 days my buddy finally tested negative today! He had a few nights with fever and chills, and in addition to standard flu like symptoms he said he had back pains in the areas where his lungs are. Only had light shortness of breath for like a day or two, but lost sense of taste/smell for like 5-7 days.

He did vitamin C, D, zinc and quercetin.

Those symptoms are still suspicious with loss of taste and smell. It's possible he was a false positive. Might be worth considering getting antibody testing later.

One of the data points that Abbott said he was following closely was the percentage of positive tests. I believe he said when it hit 10%, it was a cause for concern.

I live in Dallas County, so I follow Dallas County numbers closer than state or national numbers. Dallas County has always run higher than 10%. This week, Dallas County reported 33.7% positive. However, they had a statement that said "symptomatic patients". After seeing that, I compared the number of tests from the report to the number of tests on worldometer and see there is a lot less in the report than worldometer.

I guess my question is.... When Abbott talks about talks about positive rates, is he referring to all test or symptomatic tests? I'm not sure I understand the important of either except to say the rise in cases is due to the rise in testing. If that's the reason, it seems like all tests is the better barometer.

Here's the quote and link for the Dallas County report.

The percentage of respiratory specimens testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 increased to 33.7% among symptomatic patients presenting to area hospitals in week 26

"symptomatic patients presenting to area hospitals" are a just subset of all tests.

As always, Thank You for all that you do for everyone that comes to this forum. I want to tell you that I look every day to see your update, and pass it on to many of my family and friends. Especially grateful that you unselfishly give up your time(Fourth of July, etc.) to keep us informed to the most recent studies and news. You do indeed exemplify what it is to be an AGGIE and a caring PHYSICIAN! Thank you.

Dr. Coates, thank you so much for the amazing information you have given us daily. I had some simple questions about quercetin. Is it ok to take it with food? When is the best time of day I should be taking it?

I have a bottle of 250mg and didn't know if I should take multiple doses (up to 500mg) at once or to space them out throughout the day.

I would space them out but don't think it really important.

I take 1 gram every morning and a second in the evening if I feel I was potentially exposed.

Dr. Coates,
Thanks again for what you do! One of the posts on this TexAgs Covid board refers to a Doctor Richard Bartlett in West Texas using inhaled, generic budesonide, along with generic antiobiotics, and zinc. It mentions doing the treatment early on in the process, which is what I hear a lot as far as treatments being effective.

I know this isn't FDA approved, and hasn't gone through required trials to be proven out etc, but would you consider prescribing something like this? As I understand, you are unable to prescribe HCL anymore, so what do you recommend other than the supplements?

If you're 75 and your wife is 70 and you've have no symptoms, is it wise to go next week to Seattle to our grand daughters 1st birthday? The only way we've seen her is on Face Time.

Since she will be one, she will not remember this party.
This is for you to see her. Almost any time would be better than a childrens birthday party.
Also doubly bad if air travel or motels are involved.
No medical creds, just another senior grandparent.

I understand the priceless sentimental value but medically speaking it is not a good time for people in their 70's to be traveling.

Reveille,

How serious should I (mid-forties) be taking this virus if I'm a teacher heading back to campus in fall? Have a 10 year old daughter joining me.

Some are saying just a case of the flu, and some are terrified to leave their house.

My opinion is that I'm ready to do my job if my district has us back on campus. Obviously, I'll be taking precautions, but I'm curious how your opinion has evolved since March.

Those numbers tell me we need to let this pass through the population while protecting our most at risk, including my 80 year old MIL who lives with me.

Its unfortunate but its where we are . . . .

Is there any connection between the virus and colon issues? I have diverticulitis, but haven't had a flare up for over three years and thought I had it under control with diet and exercise, etc. This weekend it roars back with a vengeance. I'm starting the standard antibiotic treatment and I assume there is no relation to the virus, but just thought I would ask...

Thanks for all your work!

One question, and I hope you haven't already answered it a thousand times...do you take these supplements (quercetin, zinc, etc) daily as a preventative? Or only when you think you may have come in contact with a positive case?

Thanks again!

Not to speak for him, but I know he's pretty busy..... I'm pretty sure that is a daily list. I've been taking all of them since late March. He does recommend doubling up on Quercitin and Zinc if exposed to a known positive. I've personally done that since Friday when I was informed I had been potentially exposed to 2 positive cases at work.

I am taking them as a preventative. But certainly some people are waiting to take them after exposure.

Question for the gallery- what's the max zinc one should take in a day if they are "doubling up"? I already take 40 mg daily as part of a multivitamin. Would I be able to take another 50 mg pill at another point in the day if I thought I was exposed?

Right now, until I get a negative test back or don't have symptoms in inside of 14 days, I'm taking 50mg in morning and 50 at night.

Quite possibly over kill, but it isn't messing my stomach up, so why not. Don't think it'll hurt me.

My wife did a tele-visit with her primary care physician today, for the first time since all this started. She was worried about divulging all the supplements I had her taking on the advice of Doc Reveille. She is high risk due to age, asthma, immune system problems, etc. He told her she was doing the right thing and to keep on keeping on. She feels much better, even though I still keep her locked away and generally only rides around the farm. Another thank you to the good Doc and all the good advice shared on this thread.

Many thanks for all you've done. My question is: are you still doing the HCQ/Zpack/Zinc cocktail for outpatient use? If not, whats the latest and greatest thinking on early treatment regimen? I did read/watch the Midland doc also.

Reason I ask, my daughter was exposed and symptomatic. Still waiting on test results. She's getting better already, I'm starting to feel crappy. So want to know what I should discuss with the doc, and if my doc won't play ball on treatment if I should just call you.

I have been on your supplement regimen for months now and continuing, so covered from that standpoint.

Thanks!

Is joint pain and swelling a symptom of COVID? I'm a healthy 34 year old but have had odd swelling behind my knee and pain in other joints (including neck) for the past day. Pretty Unusual for me and no existing injuries or other symptoms.

Thanks to everyone on this thread!
