Folks outside the affected zone are seeing gas shortages because Houston typically supplies them with refined gasoline.

What counties are feeling this effect?

Is it hard to find gas in Harris co?

Plenty of gas in Austin area, but the price went up 15 cents in the last 2days.

I've been warning everyone starting a few days ago to get prepared for fuel shortages. It's about to get real.

I stopped at 2 places here in Austin with no gas. Looks like a repeat if Katrina with a short term supply impact.

The port of corpus Christi was still closed as of yesterday. Doesn't help.

I know they can truck it out...but it still hurts.

Still at $2.15 / gal as of an hour ago in College Station, but they were out of Diesel. Top off those tanks if you get a chance. Once the refineries are back online we should be good but that won't happen until the water goes down.

Hopefully someone in the business can stop by and give us better info.

Lots inventory in PADD3 (Gulf Coast) going into the storm. RBOB (gasoline) near an all time high in inventory.

Distribution may be another issue, but no immediate shortages as a whole

Anecdotedly it sounds like Dallas is getting spotty and most stations in Houston are out.

Rumor is highway filling stations are getting preference.

Should only be an issue for Dallas for a few days until supply from elsewhere can be trucked in. Probably some flase panic. Houston is gonna be a while I'd bet.

I'm in the Plano/Murphy area and plan on returning early Saturday morning. Some stations are completely out and others have lines wrapped around parking lots out to main roads.

Part of that is people seeing the line and panicking

One thing I worry about. I know a lot of people are planning this weekend to hop in an f150 filled with supplies and intentions to volunteer, but it may be a 1 way trip if gas isn't available.

Now you have more mouths to feed and shelter all because they don't have fuel.

ATLANTA (AP) Colonial Pipeline plans to shut down a key line that supplies gasoline to the South due to storm-related refinery shutdowns and Harvey's effect on its facilities west of Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The Georgia-based company expects to shut off the line Thursday, the company said in a statement. Colonial had already closed down its other main line, which transports diesel and aviation fuels.
The pipeline, a crucial artery in the nation's fuel supply network, provides nearly 40 percent of the South's gasoline.

In September 2016, a leak and gas spill in Alabama that closed the Colonial Pipeline led to days of empty gas station pumps and higher prices in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and the Carolinas.
Gasoline prices have been on the rise even before the pipeline shutdown. Harvey's devastating strike on the Gulf Coast has prompted one of the summer's largest one-week price surges, AAA reported.
Among the reasons: About one-quarter of the Gulf Coast's oil refining capacity was taken offline, according to the Oil Price Information Service.

The storm also prompted at least eight Texas refineries to shut down, according to AAA. Nearly one-third of the nation's refining capacity is along the Gulf Coast from Corpus Christi, Texas, to the Lake Charles area.

Colonial Pipeline has not indicated how long it expects the closure to last, saying it will know more when workers can evaluate its facilities.

Half of the 26 refineries that connect to Colonial's pipeline system are between storm-ravaged Houston and Lake Charles, which is just east of the Beaumont-Port Arthur metro area.

There is no abnormal shortage. The news made people panic and stations are running out before the next fuel dump. Most stations only get dumps every 12 hours or so. Give yourself enough gas to make it by a few stations in case some are out, you'll be fine.

Makes you realize how dependent we are on something we take for granted.

I hope they have great security around those refineries.

I was curious about putting a gas oil mix into a car so did some brief internet research. Apparently, as long as that is not all the fuel in the tank (i.e. it is diluted by gas already in the tank) you can use it. I looked because I have about 5 gallons of mix in case I need it.

It is the internet so I don't want to take it for gospel....does anyone disagree based on knowledge/experience?

DFW specifically Arlington is out of control. 1 station left with gas. None in Flower Mound, Grapveine, or Colleyville per apps. People need to park, chill, and wait.

I was near empty this morning on my way to work, but was running late and don't have time to stop and fill up. There were no lines, and I just figured I'd fill up at lunch. By lunch, there were lines at every gas station and some were already dry. This is in Plano.

Have to go to Plano from Belton for a soccer tournament this weekend. I get sheety mileage and am worried about being able to fill up to get home. Asked a friend that lives in oak cliff to keep a 5 gallon can stashed for me.
