I have lived in Sienna for 11 years and I don't ever remember the streets flooding. And we have been through at least 3 very high Brazos water events. The record of 54.7' last year did not even seem like a high stress event and i don't think there was any significant street flooding.
I know this forum is set up to help people and provide information, but I have some serious questions for whomever makes our decisions for us:
1. Sienna improvement spending- why are we spending so much money on artificial turf for la cross and baseball fields rather than preparing for a 800 or 1000 year flood? I get it Sienna, you did not anticipate such an event, but I want to be prepared for the worst. How does the cost of one or two new pumps stations compare to 2 artificial fields. Thank God the levees were increased a few feet a couple of years ago, or Sienna would look like the worst of Katrina.
2. Why are we spending money on new turning lanes that don't appear to have any significant value add and have caused commuting problems for some time? See above.
3. So Sienna was designed to funnel flood waters to the southwest side (were I live and houses have been significantly flooded) and this was not disclosed before...like when i was deciding where to build?
4. How are our decision makers determined and what can we do to replace them?
Sorry for the rant that does not help our current situation, but I am pissed.
