Anyone have any idea about flooding in Firethorne. My wife and I were supposed to close on a home Wednesday.

I would hold off if possible, I can't be sure but I think They mentioned firethorne by name as one of the hardest hit areas.

My folks live in Brazoria County west of 288 near the Brazos. They thankfully heeded the evacuation today and bugged out. During the Memorial Day flood water was within 6 inches of the house. They are not taking chances this time.

As an fyi almost all hebs closed at 3 today for partner safety and we are trying to open at 9a tomorrow to prevent anyone driving in the dark. We are only asking partners that can get there with 100% safety so we may be shortstaffed and we are receiving no trucks so we may not have everything. This message is for those of you who can get to and still may need supplies.

Love my HEB, I know it's a slogan, but it's true. They're doing what they can, while not demanding/asking their employees to put themselves at risk.

In Coles Crossing (barker cyp north of 290) and getting heavy rains, friends in back of the neighborhood off telge about to take on water if they haven't already.

Starting to get sketch at our house, checking water every hour out front.

Having a 3 month old really makes this a scarier event
T&P for you Jon. I know that intersection right there Jarvis/Barker Cypress gets bad at times like this.

Is there a way for you to get out?

No way to leave at this point. My buddy officially has water inching in.

At this point my plan would be to walk the .4mi to my parents 2 story or more probable is to wait until morning to make any move other than to the neighbors 2 story. We are a 1 story

Not at 100 yet.

We live on the west end of the reservoir...our back yard literally falls off about 8 feet down into it.
--------------
This was sent by Harris County flood warning system earlier today:

Attention residents of neighborhoods bordering the Barker Reservoir

Unofficial communication from the Army Corp of Engineers has provided important information regarding homes in and around your subdivision. Due to the urgency of this information and the difficulty of getting a timely official communication from the Harris County Office of Emergency Management, your area HOAs are providing this information to you in an abundance of caution.

The information we currently have from the Army Corp of Engineers is that their weather models, in conjunction with the National Weather Service, shows that water levels inside the Barker Reservoir are expected to peak at 105ft above sea level. This will be a record amount for the reservoir and will bring about significant flooding behind the reservoir, into many of our neighbors homes and streets. The first and lowest elevated homes to flood, at 97ft, will occur around 7pm this evening, the 27th. Waters will continue to rise to peak levels on approximately September 4th, after rains have subsided and bayous have emptied into the reservoir.
--------------

It has been absolutely pouring here the last hour or two...so things are definitely getting worse in this area.

We have a friend who works with the Corp of Engineers... and is very familiar. Said they are predicting flow around the back ends of the dam at 104'.

We really need a source on this. Something like this is going to **** a lot of people up.
I agree. They need to release the water but it seems like they want to get all the people out that flood plain when the next round hits.

In case you need to reference them. I have uploaded the water table maps for the Ad***** & Barker reservoirs in high quality pdfs here:
Ad***** & Barker Reservoirs

When they start the release, the houses immediately affected are the ones right on the water (purple area). If that is your home, you will need high tail it outta there first thing tomorrow morning.

That's not quite right. They're draining the reservoir, not filling. The release is going to hit Buffalo bayou, and will actually lower the level in those areas.

The problem is, they can't lower it fast enough and it's going to hit possibly as high as 104'. If it does, even the houses in red are at risk.

And remember not just the house -- the streets too. So if your street is at 102', when the reservoir hits 102', you're stuck at home til they drain it...which they said may not be for weeks.

Devastor- re: Ad*****...trying to determine why houses in purple would be affected negatively if they're releasing into Buffalo from the Langham Creek gate in the south part of the map at the levee? Wouldn't it relieve all those folks to the north?

The reason I ask is that it's been a big topic of conversation in my neighborhood this evening.
