Key takeaways
  • A very serious flooding situation is coming.
  • A very serious flooding situation is coming.
  • A very serious flooding situation is coming.
  • For some reason, the Governor of Texas said Friday afternoon that Houstonians should evacuate from the rain. Normally that decision is handled by local officials, who have advised residents to ride out the storm. That would be my advice as well for almost everyone in Houston.

What are the roads into Katy from the West like? Need to take the kids to their extracurriculars. I'd like to get the classes in. Just don't want to fight traffic.

where is everyone going to go? Everyone in Houston can't head to Waco or Dallas.

There are going to be some smaller cities like Richmond, Rosenberg and Siminton who are directly on the Brazos river that I would almost guarantee get a call to evacuate. Gotta have roads clear to move them out. They would most likely be in a much more life threatening situation than someone north of I-10 who might flood but not flood up to their roof.

The article is pretty clear - the current models are not optimistic on outlook. Harvey is likely going to hit land, full stop, and proceed to act like a pump by sucking water from the gulf and dumping it on the entire middle and upper Texas coast - for as long as FIVE days after landfall.

The storm is basically going to act as a siphoning hose to break all that Gulf moisture to our doorsteps

Means that it stays parked on the coast and Houston will be on the receiving end of a conveyor belt of water from the gulf to the atmosphere to the tine for 5 days.

We have a Friday evening flight to LA for the game. Wondering if that will be impacted. Plus, if HISD is cancelled all week, the first day will be next Tuesday. Which means coming back from LA early. **** you Harvey.

It's been lightly raining off and on all day...no big deal...except ground is saturated and there's already a few inches of water in ditches in our neighborhood. It's going to fill up fast with lots of rain...

The silver lining is that they don't really know whats going to happen beyond 2-3 days with any accuracy (which is why the forecast of what its going to do is continually changing for those days), so by like Sunday, the forecast may change from having it just hang around.

If the models end up being reasonably accurate, this may be like the frog getting boiled analogy...in this case, not too much happening at first, maybe get a little complacent, but in a few days, might end up being a big bowl of suck.

Tracking at 325 degrees at last update, which is a bit more north of NW (315).

I would think Friday will be fine. Ours is Thursday. I brought a weekend bag and came to my family's place in Wimberley. I would be lying if I said that I wasn't slightly nervous about getting back into houston in time to pack enough for 5 days/cooler Cali weather & catch my flight.
