I have sandbags for the doors. Going to put stuff upstairs that I can, the rest on cans/blocks. If it gets up over that, oh well.
fyi for flood insurance holders. Wright will reimburse up to $1000 for sand bags and $1000 for moving belongings to protect against flood damage. Federal minimum wage rates.
We're bugging out to the 'rents in CS. House has never flooded, but it got hairy during Memorial day. This might be the one.

Elevate everything, a good walk-through claim video and opening the main breaker. Anything else?
Board windows and sandbag doors. Spray entire house with Flex Seal? I'm just letting people know that NFIP will reimburse for that stuff.

All joking and bickering aside .... I hope everyone makes it through safely.

My brother and sister live inside the loop and are hunkering down. My parents live in Sugar Land but are in Michigan right now - kinda worried about their house. It shouldn't flood but without having someone there, it will be hard to know.

Things look pretty clear right now:

Transtar has traffic tracking all the way to Dallas and says it is green all the way now. Who knows what change that will be after work today. But since apparently nobody went to work today, judging by traffic, that might start earlier.

It doesn't look bad at the moment. I imagine after Rita, most will shelter in place. However, during a storm is worst time to trust unconfirmed reports.

People like Claym usually open their mouths first.

So triggered

Expect that when there are A LOT of people's livelihoods at stake for the next 5-7 days.

While the end of days isn't coming, it's certainly a dangerous storm that needs to be taken seriously.

Don't be an ass.

This is a bad storm. If this isnt one to be worried about then there is never anything to be worried about. Flooding concerns are real. Tropical storm allison reboot concerns, which many people seem to be considering the baseline, are probably something just to keep in the back of your mind as potential worst case just to be careful and not something that should be bandied about as what is definitely gonna happen at minimum or whatever.

Latest fcst shows next Wednesday may be the worst for rain and wind as it makes it second landfall just to east of Galveston as possible hurricane.

Dang folks settle down.

If someone here wants to freak out or if someone wants to downplay the storm - ITS OK.

No need to get all upset one way or the other.

Where do you see that? This latest update from NHC indicates it won't make a second landfall and will be here as a TS.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ounce vodka
  • 1/2 ounce Galliano
  • 5 oz orange juice
  • Orange wedge, to garnish

Directions:
[ol]
  • Shake the vodka and orange juice in a cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Strain contents of shaker into an ice-filled highball glass.
  • Pour Galliano on top.
  • Garnish with orange wedge and serve.
  • [/ol]

Well I don't have orange juice or Galliano, so I'll just go with the vodka I guess

We have a paid service that shouldn't post, but just moved landfall from Port Arthur to just east of Galveston at 70mph, but says could be up to 25mph higher.

Can only say from experience of living in Houston area for last 35 years no way of knowing. Bands of rain will flood some areas and leave others without a problem. A crap shoot at this point, but if fcst service we have is right should not be too much flooding this weekend.

More worried about Tuesday/Wednesday. 10 -15 inches on top of saturated ground.

Should have recommended she buy quikcrete. Couple 60# bags should stop that hurricane in it's tracks.
