Since Olsen Field opened in 1978, Texas Tech has never won a weekend series vs. the Ags at Olsen. The streak will be on the line again starting Friday night.
In the past 28 years, there have been 2 series of note that threatened the streak.
Prior to 1995, Olsen Field was truly a black hole for raider baseball, but in 1995 it took a dramatic extra-inning grand slam by the maroon-n-white (Jeff Bailey) to split the 4 games series with Tech and keep the streak alive. (Tech had won a doubleheader the day before)
Then in 2000, after dropping the opener to Tech, the Ags got a 9th inning single (from Carlos Sepulveda) to edge Tech 2-1 in the second game, and then the Ags run-ruled Tech in the series finale. That series was the highlight of the Ags' lowly 2000 season as Tech ended up making a regional that year.
----
Recently, the Ags swept Tech in 2002 at Olsen and then comfortably won 2 of 3 in 2004.
----
It may be another classic series vs. the Red Raiders this weekend. Gig'em!
