Too bad Ray hasn't delivered on that potential.

Yeah, too bad the poor guy is hurt.

I will need to see the other 2 shortstops play before I believe that any of them are better than Cliff and can do what he does. How can Cliff have dropped 2 spots, since the season began?

And one thought about Alex Gordon...frankly, he has played very poor competition to this point in the season. A lot of aggie hitters would have better stats if they had played 10 games against the Dakota States and Eastern/Western Illinois.

And Whelan, IMO, he has been a bigger disappointment than Ray.

Whelan can walk every batter he faces, but because he throws 95, he is going to get some serious looks.

last night i stood behind home plate while ray pitched the 9th. he was throwing 91-94 and his stuff had good movement. the basehits were on good pitches. i expect to see him get action this weekend either in a long relief or late inning situation.

Ray has always been a mystery to me. He's got incredible stuff. Seemingly there is no reason why he shouldn't be a very good pitcher at this level. He's the Tim Redding of college baseball.

There should be no comparison to Redding....that's just plain mean.

I don't think that Penny dropped by virtue of his own fault...#8 Jeremy Slayden of Georgia Tech & #16 Ryan Braun are the only guys who have leaped from below Penny above him and their numbers certainly explain why.

Prospect gradings are not based on stats. Stats are an indicator, but kids get drafted on potential. You can't teach speed, quickness, arm strength, and baseball awareness. All of those physical attributes can be slightly improved through training, but minimally. I know someone will want to argue about that, but don't tell me about your 16 yr old that gained 10 mph on his fastball. That is call puberty. Take Colt Griffin from some small town in The Great State. He barely pitched in HS. Threw 99 mph and that was all that was needed for KC to take him in the first round.

And he's yet to make it out of A ball

That's the way they do it though. If he can find his control (assuming that is his problem) and one or two offspeed pitches, he'll be in the big leagues quickly. KC knew it would take longer than usual with him, as apposed to Mark Prior, who was already polished. Even if he never makes it, he should have been a 1st rounder (you know what I mean).

There is an old saying, "Location, Location, Location"!

Ray must perfect that one area.

Tell me why he should be a first rounder if he never makes it to the big leagues. You draft players solely on the hope that they will contribute to the Big league club. If he never makes it, he's a bust, and a bad pick by the Royals. Go figure

scouts have been masturbating at the thought of teagarden since he was a fr. he'll be very wealthy very soon.

Truth,

He should be a 1st rounder because he is unique in that he threw 99 freakin mph in HS and barely ever pitched. That means he has a fresh arm and the sky is the limit with him. Whether he can handle it mentally or if he gets the right coaching are undeterminable. Talent wise he is a 1st rounder, no question. What you are saying is that if someone doesn't make the big leagues, they shouldn't have be a 1st round pick. While I understand your point, I challenge you to show me 30 something kids that all deserve to be 1st rounders, before they are drafted, and bet your life savings that all will make it. And since they are all supposed to be the best of the best, just making it isn't good enough, they have to be starters and at one time or another All-Stars. This is what you are implying. It is an inexact science based on POTENTIAL. That is why, regardless of stats, you never see a kid get drafted in the first round that tops out at 90. There are a hundreds of those in the U.S. if not more. Bust or not, he should have been a 1st rounder.

im from Marshall and it was crazy how Colt came out pitching...he wasnt even supposed to pitch but from either injuries or suspensions he was forced to pitch and it turns out he threw 100 mph...We were playin a game in Louisana and scouts came to see the opposing pitcher pitch and then Colt started pitching and they were blown away...From then on there would be at least 40 to 50 scouts at all his games...

He always leads his league in K's but also leads in walks and wild pitches by a long shot, and the word is now he is gonna be tried as an outfielder...
