Cliff is 3rd.

Stein, Sebek, Pouk, and Mav are resting too.

I just don't get it.

We had a whole thread about moving Pennington down to 3 to take advantage of his production.

Hopefully it will pan well - I love the idea.

i think MJ was like a lot of the aggie fans last weekend: didn't like what he saw in the batter's box.

I don't get this 3-0 lead in the first either, that would be 4-0 if Penny didn't get picked off.

I for one am loving the starting line-up 1-6 as we are better able to take advantage of the strengths of our hitters. Pennington should have been in the 3 hole all along. I am really glad to see Bartek and Baldwin get some PT as they deserve to get a shot because they were good players for us last year and are rewarding the coaching staff with good performances tonight. I would like to see this line-up continue with slight changes for conference play:

Bartek/Sebek
Dalton
Pennington
Hill
Pouk
Mavroulis
Boggs
Infante
Stein/Baldwin

Let's see if this trend continues for the weekend as it clearly was successful tonight and Baldwin and Bartek helped us take the final game from tech as well.

I didn't have a problem with Penny batting third, I think it is a great move. I would like to see a more stable line-up if at all possible. I agree lets get Pouk some rest. Tonight MJ gets major credit for shaking things up. Boggs has hit really poorly all year, especially situational hitting, and he is now sitting for it. Fair enough.

hindsight is 20/20, but moving cliff to 3rd seemed to be a great move. He had 5 RBI's, and he likely wouldn't have had those batting first...

I especially like having Hill as a clean-up hitter behind Pennington too. Hill really provides a threat to minimize intentional walks to Cliff a la Texas Tech.

exactly what i said he should be batting from the beginning of the year. about damn time.
of course, it all relies on getting production out of 1 and 2, otherwise it's the same as before except he starts with 2 outs instead of 0.

For the move to work we need Parker to keep up his average. It's standing at .292 right now, but his on-base % is only .318. Not walking very much. Just 4 walks in 110 plate appearances. If Cliff is going to hit #3, Parker needs to get that OBP up.

I'm still waiting for the day when Glover has a high OBP...

Dalton has, quite honestly, been disappointing. His OB% is terrible and he has little pop. I'm not sure why he still bats at the top of the order.

Glover does at least walk and is more of a steal threat, so I'd really like to see him get another crack if we're going to move Penny out of the leadoff spot.

I like a lineup of:

Bartek/Glover/Sebek
Pennington
Hill
Pouk
Mavroulis
Infante
Boggs
Baldwin
Dalton

Why take Pennington out of the lead-off spot if you're gonna take the bat out of his hand in the 2hole?

Dalton is the best table setter on this team not named Cliff Pennington - does great in the 2 hole. There's far more than OBP to that spot in the order.

Pennington would bat left-handed in most cases (which provides an advantage when the leadoff man can get on). I'm not a fan of bunting guys over to second to begin with. I'd much prefer attempting a steal and having a guy that is a legitimate threat with the bat takes away the pitcher's attention. My only concern with Penny batting leadoff is the first inning, where he has no opportunity to bat with guys on. Obviously if bunting is a key part of your game then you don't want him doing that.

However, I don't care how good Dalton is at "setting the table", having that low of an OB% and SLG% is not going to provide you with a gauranteed spot in the lineup.
