Actually it was a great weekend for Aggie baseball. We beat up some good ballclubs, and got our bats going. Hopefully they can continue this. Hopefully most people knew we have a good hitting ballclub, and just got a late start. Lets hope the hitting is here to stay, because I think its safe to say pitching will be fine.

What in the world does that have to do with Aggie baseball? To the extent that you get your satisfaction out of t.u. losing games, dropping one of three in Tuscon isn't much to get excited about in it's own right.

And for all you Horn fans, don't feel the need to jump in on this.

Anytime tu loses it is good for us. We ae the top 2 teams in the Big 12. Its shows that they are beatable and it doesn't hurt for recruiting purposes. And sorry, I just don't like tu, I want them to lose every game they play.

It was a great weekend. I'm hoping and expecting the Ags success away from Olsen to carry over to the conference series in Lubbock and Norman at the end of the month.

This season is shaping up to have some real statistical anomalies when compared to past years. Especially the hitting stats. Team BA is .277 right now with an average of 5.9 runs scored per game. (4.8 earned runs per game)

The Ags BA with runners in scoring position must be significantly higher than .277. (don't have that stat available)

Defense is also factoring in. The Ags have scored 19 unearned runs compared to just 2 for their opponents. A&M opponents last year scored 80 unearned runs - on pace for less than 8 right now. Wow.

Also the Ags are 11-0 when leading after 6 innings, despite a 7.00 ERA for the closer.

WOW.

On another note, I think Dave said that we've had 11 games of our 16 where we've walked 3 or less batters. That's a good way to keep down the unearned runs.

Even if that is your attitude, it really looks dumb to crow about Texas only taking 2 out of 3 at Tuscon. It's like belitting a football team for failing to win by 40.

^^^ I wouldnt say that... but tu did have a hard time winning the 2 they did, so they are beatable, no matter who they throw... They just are good hitters, and score runs with few mistakes... and are a very good ball team.

They could have started the season 20-0 and it wouldn't have made me think they were unbeatable. Everybody can be beaten in this game, and given the inherent streakiness of baseball, from our standpoint, it's better that they have their hot streak now than at the end of the year.

Remember...

The typical TexAgs poster gets more joy from a Texas loss than from an Aggie win. I don't know why that is, but it seems to be that way around here. The worshiping at the Burnt Orange altar and the obsession with the Longhorns around here is pretty sickening sometimes.

I like your point, keeping walks down is very important.

On a baseball scoring note, walks are not "unearned runs" but are counted towards your earned runs, just like a hit. Your point may have been they are not earned with a hit, which is true, but they do count towards your ERA.

I will go ahead and agree that this was a pretty big loss for texas. They are in our conference so yes it is relevant and it snaps their impressive 16 win streak. Any time we sweep a series and someone above us in the polls doesn't it could help us get more exposure.

I will be the first person to admit Texas is beatable. But I will agree with Luke and twk that it is ridiculous for Aggies to be touting a Texas loss when they have so much to be proud of regarding their own team's performance over the weekend.

But I was just saying yesterday to a friend of mine, who is a senior at A&M, that the Aggies can definitely challenge Texas. The Horns have all the offense in the world most of the time, but the pitching is suspect. Texas fans can hope our pitching is sort of like A&M's hitting was prior to this weekend ... it's there, just not producing much yet.

But I haven't had a great feeling about the pitching all season. We had to rely pretty heavily on our bullpen to beat Stanford and Arizona, and it's kind of a scary thought, getting closer and closer to conference play, that our starters are struggling to last 4 innings.

Having said all that, Texas has still taken 5 of 6 from two top 10 teams. Those have all been close, except for the loss at Arizona which was close for 8 innings. The fact that they can pull off those close wins without stellar pitching is pretty indicative of how good the team is overall.

I live in Austin, and I was getting sick of hearing "perfect", "XX game winning streak", and "still unbeaten" from the local sportscasters every time the topic of ut baseball comes up. So, yes, I am glad they lost.

bassale47: From an A&M standpoint, I guess I would be more concerned about how the Horns were doing right now if we played them early in the season, but since we play at the end of the season, what's going on right now doesn't matter very much. If, say, at the end of the season we were to somehow tie for the conference title (obviously somebody would get a tie breaker edge), then I guess the Horns really hot start could come back to bite us a little bit on NCAA seeding, but that is about it. On the other hand, Texas's hot start will help the Big XII RPI numbers, and that is a good thing.

The thing that is going to hurt Texas against A&M is that A&M does have pitching, and the hitting is picking up. Texas is going to win a lot of games on offense alone because not many teams have both the arms to stop their bats AND the hitting to overpower them.

But there is a lot of talent in the A&M lineup, and Augie is going to have to get a rotation in order pretty damn soon or he's going to be in trouble. It seemed like putting Buck Cody back in the pen would help, but he had a pretty crappy series in Arizona, and none of the three starters were impressive in the series. Texas got some pretty good relief efforts from everyone but Cody, but again, that's not going to cut it through 9 weeks in the Big XII.
