SF off to a bad start and some think the college coach isn't a great MLB coach.

He might be looking to exit.

Problem is, you can't just contact an elite coach or two and not have it get out (like last offseason). If we're serious about it, we need to let Earley go before proceeding.

That's not how any of this works.

Who cares if it gets out?

If Earley gets his feels hurt & leaves on his own it's the best case scenario

When Vitello leaves SF, whenever that is, he will be going to Arkansas.

Two problems.

1. We're not serious about winning

2. Tony Vitello isn't coming here

Love the Aggie ego and how relevant Ags think we are. Which top end coach have we poached from what school in the past? Last I checked were the school it happens too.

Not happening that way. Vitello needs to fired by the Giants and that ain't happening till the MLB season is over.

Earley gets his Year 3. He managed the expectations and just barely meet them as a new Year 2 coach.

He better focus heavily on getting basically an entirely new pitching staff from coaches to 80% of the players. If Earley had more elite arms, this team would have made Omaha. So considering injuries, he gets the pass for Year 3. And maybe, just maybe, that gives us an opportunity for Vitello, too...next year.

The MLB and NCAA calendar doesn't line up well for us to think we can land Vitello. He's literally in his third month at his new job…would he really have left a Tennessee program that he had built into a juggernaut just to turn around and quit 3 months into his new gig?

Exactly. Anyone saying Vitello for next season is smoking Crack and clueless. He would only be a dream option after Year 3 for Earley.

The missing piece in this conversation is Trev Kendall Alberts, who has already told one championship-level baseball coach to get the hell out of College Station. In my opinion, Trev is a caretaker, not a builder. Earley gets an extension, and the team's performance regresses next year.

In my lifetime, A&M has poached two big names (Jimbo/Schloss), and lost one (Schloss).

I left Fran out, but that was a big get at them time.

I don't think we have any interest in paying what that would take.

Earley will be back. He's under contract for two more years (we are very reluctant to pay buyouts in non-revenue sports), and addressed some major deficiencies in the offseason last year. Not a good thing that he needs to do so again (at least its in a different area altogether), but he will be given the opportunity. No need to waste your time or energy contemplating other alternatives for 2027. But, after next season, we will need to take a hard look and see where the program is heading.

It's almost like he was hired to clean up the Jimbo debacle

I'm amazed at how fans don't realize how much nil and school priorities make a difference in the performance on the field. The athletic department is trying to throw big money at every sports because that is how you get a better team now. Just hiring a different coach only will not guarantee success. Non of us know how money Earley has to spend on better talent. To say we need better pitching and better hitting and better fielding without giving him way more funds is stupid.
We are throwing more money at girls soccer to try to improve it.
We are trying to throw more money at wbb to improve it. We might need a new coach too which would cost money.
Now fans think we should hire a new softball coach which would require more money for the coach and more money for better players.
There is a limit on the amount of money we have.
Changing coaches is only a part of the problem when a team in under performing.

Why do people think Vitello isn't coming here or is going to Arkansas? I'm sure folks said same at different points about other coaches we eventually had come here? Genuinely curious.

We're not broke. But resources have a limit, and we're not throwing around as much money in baseball and softball as others.

Do you really think Tony V is gong to give up after two months in MLB?

Not if Dave Van Horn wants to coach as long as Mike Martin did (age 75). Some things are out of your control, and Tony may not want to stick around and rot in MLB if he has to wait ten years for DVH to retire.

Of course he's a winner. But my point was, there are losers in this fanbase who hate the idea of him being our coach simply because they don't like his character. I concede it's unlikely that we land him, but the fact that he's besties with today's biggest country singer and loves to party should NOT be the reason why we don't even give him a phone call.
