I was ticked last night. I wanted to kick something.

After an okay night of sleep, my response is that I am upset but I realize...Baseball has got to be the hardest sport to win a National Championship. There are so many good teams and if you get hot at the right time, anything can happen.

At the beginning of a season, you can pick 10 teams from football or basketball to win the natty and you will most likely be correct. Not the case with baseball.

This was a fun year...at times. The last month stunk! I chalk it mainly to injuries. If Sims is healthy, maybe we can find a win against USC, but I doubt it, but a fully healthy team would have received top 8 and maybe we get a better matchup. However, look at UCLA and GATech.

I do believe that changes need to be made with coaching. I am not sure Earley is the change but I would definitely change Kelly and hit the portal hard for a replacement of half the pitching staff. We definitely lose 3 bats (Duer, Gra, and Sorrell), and possibly one more (Hac). So the bats are looking solid, but will need to find solid replacement value in the portal. Last years recruiting and portal was great. Do it again and the bats will be fine. Success next year will be directly related to what we do in the portal with pitching.

I don't agree with the bolded part because while it has grown, college baseball is still primarily a regional sport due to weather.

There are way fewer schools that are truly committed to competing in baseball than for other sports and the greater Houston and DFW areas produce a ton of top baseball talent.

Therefore, baseball is the one sport that Texas A&M has a natural advantage over the majority of their peers.

This is why for me, the "meeting expectations" mark for Texas A&M baseball has always been hosting a regional. Getting a national seed is "exceeding expectations" and not hosting is "below expectations".

There are a lot of needs. Pitching and replacing a ton of production at the plate. This will be a test for Earley.

Good pitching (more times than not) > good hitting.

Once the book is out on how to attack a hitter, it will be copied. We saw that as the season progressed. Hitting is still a reaction to a pitch, see the ball and hit the ball. Good hitters crush mistakes and take advantage of when a pitcher fails to execute. But if you can execute your pitches, you can defeat the hitter because you know their weaknesses.

Definitely need better pitching going forward.

I think what you are saying really aligns with the first 30 or so years. There were not many teams that put much into it and it's too bad we were not able to take advantage of it.

The past 20 years, I maybe agree a little bc LSU sure has aligned with your stance.

The one thing I find interesting on here. OK, we all hate POS. But he did show everyone what a solid coach can do at A&M. It was not just POS. It was him and A&M. In just three seasons we went to the final 4 and also one game from winning it all. If we get the right guy, it will happen fast again.

It's always, always about pitching.

Even the best offenses get shot down. When you have pitching, those are the 2-1 games.

I could have written the TexAgs headline for this game last week, especially without Sims.

The team did pretty well this season. Dont give up on Early.

Better than the night before and good enough to win the game if we show up just a little at the plate and don't fumble on the base paths.

Good point. Year 3 is when we know 100% if Earley can become an elite coach in a few more years.

He has to flip this roster and completely rebuild the pitching. If he goes 3rd place again in SEC and makes another Regional Host in Year 3....guess what, that's more progress and he gets to stay for an extension.

Like it or not. And hosting, guys? It is not easy. Look at USCs track record last what....20 years????

Hosting is 100% the equivalent of making a CFP spot in football.

Anyone who knows baseball, knows Supers was as far as this team could go. I knew that before SEC play started. When Stewart went down, we were 110% screwed for a long playoff run. Already thin at that point, too.

Hey at least I got my Spurs tomorrow! And our 13U kids play this weekend. Life is good!!

This.

Now that UCLA, Oregon, Nebraska & USC get B10 $$$. The number of schools that have money to spend in baseball has gone up a tad, but there are still only 25-30 or so programs that commit real money to baseball and have legit shots in most
years to win the CWS. If you are a program in California, TX, FL & GA & are one of those 25-30 you have a big advantage and really no excuse to not be in Omaha at least every 3 years minimum.

LSU doesn't count! That is God's favorite team!

Okay, to maybe justify how LSU fits into my claim that baseball is the hardest sport to win the Natty...last year's LSU team was not good! They were terrible and should have been beat in Regionals by LR. They won the Natty last year.

My point and 96ags stated it, our expectations and should be the expectation for all baseball teams is to Host. It is hard to accept, but this team met expectation. Did they go above? Nope, but we need to dial it back.

There was another note about Schloss and yes, he fit what we need as a coach. He may be the best organization coach in the country.

Also, our expectations need to be higher than just hosting regionals

If your guy can't make it out of regionals fairly regularly, hosting or not, time to get a new guy

Correct me if I'm wrong, but his roster was worse this year than it was last year and is likely going to be worse again next year, on paper. He came into a situation with a loaded roster, bomber in year 1 (injury bug needs to be considered) and then climbed back the next year, with the core team being players that he assisted in recruiting but didn't commit while he was HC. Do we think he can do better with a 'worse' team in year 3? That's what worries me the most about keeping him around.

If Earley won't get rid of Kelley then send them both on their way. We got our **** shoved two games in a row at home. Awful ending of careers for GG, CS.

I'm a Texas Rangers fan since 1972. Trust me that I understand the frustration. In a sense A&M is like a mid-market MLB team like the Rangers. Simply buying win is nigh impossible. But with the right strategy it will be possible to go through periods with better outcomes.

I think we will continue to cycle. We have had some very good head coaches who manage decently well and one that exceeded that.

I am green share with co-workers and friends a very simple saying:

Don't get mad, get strategic.

That is hard to do for an everyday fan, but I'll offer that part of the Texas Rangers mystique is the club went from zero baseball traditions to having true believer fans that wanted more and eventually showed up in throngs at Bush's Ballpark in Arlington that replaced the Arlington Stadium venue and was baseball-specific ballpark (usually folks call it a jewel box design which has some negative implications.)

In the playoffs they sat 50,000 and regularly sold out the venue in better years. They had developed traditions including adding an organ after playing recorded country music in the beginning.

They had three WS trips and two were deeply disappointing. Then in 2023 the breakthrough.

With the support of fans, the 2023 campaign went from impossible to unbelievable. I'll offer there were fans who bit fingernails and gnawed on knuckles and probably used swear words when a bump occurred.

But they stayed true and got their championship. It was after that I heard the phrase "flags fly forever."

I think we will get there. I have no opinion on when or who. But the fan base supplies character to the current team and powers them past their own shortcomings. It did not happen this year, but we know some of the reasons why.

This year was a much better campaign than last year. That's good. I don't know what change will occur but I don't believe anyone is going to rest easy until we see a better team take the field.

But we cannot control the outcome from this board. And too many of us think we can or should.

Relax. Support. Believe.

I agree 100% on the difficulty of baseball and getting hot at the right time, look no further than the Houston Astros 2019 team, they had the best pitching and hitting in the league and were taken out by a Nationals team that got hot at the end of the year and carried it through the playoffs…I would also add the Rangers 2023 team, their hitting got hot at the end of the year and just never stopped through the postseason.

Two of our last three baseball coaches had never been a head coach at any level in their life prior to being hired. The other had coached in multiple CWS. Look at the difference in results. Do we need to make things so complicated?

Didn't LSU also benefit for many years from a state scholarship program that allowed halfway decent students to get academic scholarships so that they could spent more of their then-limited baseball athletic scholarship allotment on out-of-state guys?

You are referring to TOPS. It still exists, thankfully for my son will be using it this Fall at La Tech. He wants to go to A&M but out of state tuition is dumb! I know...move to TX and all problems solved. However, I married a Hotty from LA and we ain't moving to TX. She trumps anything A&M has to offer.

Anyhow, TOPS helps but it only provides about $8k per year per student, at most.

I wasn't that upset. Honestly that's kind of the game I expected with our lack of pitching at that point. Heroic effort by Freshcorn, but couldn't get anything going at the dish. I was so bummed at the 3 run Homer, I didnt really feel anything when the fly ball was dropped.

Not so sure about that. They are stretched in football, baseball, and now basketball. TAF was in the red recently and had to be backstopped. I suspect baseball will get the same attention as it has had.
