Can one of them pitch?

Of course, we couldn't hit today either.

My gosh. Lots of money being spent for mediocrity. The ladies now have "Tap Out Trish," the softball equivalent of "Regional Rob."

So you are not counting the Super Regional from two years ago when we were 1 game away from the WCWS?

How are we defining mediocrity? And how much money is "lots of money"?

Hang the banner, girls. Trish has led us to the WCWS*

*1 game away from it

Are the ladies lacking for anything investment wise? Just trying to be fair about things....or are womens sports off limits because they involve.....women? Nope, Laurie Corbelli was shown the door for Bird Kuhn, who was let go for Jamie Morrison. Morrison won a natty. Joni Taylor has her detractors and hasn't panned out as hoped for. Gary Blair won a natty. Jo Evans was shown the door for Trish Ford, whose teams have been bounced from 2 straight regionals at home. One to Liberty!!! So Liberty has more financial backing??? We should be in the SR 3 out of every 4 years, and at WCWS at least 1/3 of the times we make the SR. Getting bounced at home twice at regional is not a good look and not a good season in my book. Its OK to decent but not good. JMHO

The same arguments were made for Rob Childress aka Regional Rob. At least Rob got to Omaha a few times but he had his detractors. Schloss showed success can be had. The same arguments will be applied to Earley.

I don't know enough about who we could get and what it would cost but we just got completely throttled and run ruled in 5 innings by a Big 12 team. Embarrassing.

Irony is that this post is 10x more embarrassing than anything done on the softball diamond.

This is all I'm looking for. Now we can go back and see what other teams/coaches meet that metric. According to ChatGPT, here's the list of teams that have made a SR in 3 of the last 4 years:

Oklahoma
Texas
Alabama
Clemson
Duke
Florida
Florida State
Georgia
Oklahoma State
Stanford
Tennessee
UCLA

Of these, only Clemson and Georgia did not make the WCWS at least once.

Now the more interesting question . . . same analysis going back to 2005 (excluding 2020), which was the first year there were SRs, and the year I fell in love with college softball:

Alabama
Oklahoma
Florida
UCLA

All 4 of those teams made the WCWS at least 1/3 of the time they made a SR.

Here's the list of coaches that meet that metric who have coached at least 3 years at the school during the "SR" era:

Patrick Murphy - Alabama
Patty Gasso - Oklahoma
Tim Walton - Florida
Clint Myers - Arizona State
Clint Myers - Auburn

Interesting, 3 of those 4 started before 2005 and and are still at their current schools. Clint Myers and family gotta a little weird.

All of this assumes I'm doing prompts correctly.

Earley seems to have figured something out on the baseball side. He took control of the offense, specifically the plate approach, and brought in Pennington to help with other aspects of the offense and defense. He made changes and they worked. Ford needs to take inventory this offseason. What needs to change? What's going on with the offense? What does she need to do to get our pitching fixed? Is it talent?

I like Ford but man this one stings.

It's one year. I'm not prepared to say Earley has figured out ***** Just like I'm not prepared to say that Ford needs to make changes. It's sports, not calculus.

We just got punked out of our home regional

2nd year in a row

Hell yes it's time to start scrutinizing things

Buck starts at the top. Stay the course another year, support her, and see what happens

Another regional ejection and it's time to move on

Get out of a regional next year or hit the bricks

You can say Ford is a good all you want, however losing your home regional 2 yrs in a row is a BAD look to recruits. I don't care how much $ you throw at them. Being in Oklahoma City,OK in June is what these kids want to see.

Is that why they signed up to go to Tech last season when they hadn't been to OKC ever before?

Obviously, T. Ford has to be assessed if going to get the team there 'consistently' (past regionals). Regionals are not the standard IMO and the last 2 seasons are an unwanted trend regardless of coaches' speak (esp. last year when we had a more complete team and no reason to fall apart). Hopefully, $0 bonus for non-achievement (no soup for you)

Can complain about NIL (and yes, Trev is controlling the non-money-maker sports with smaller apportionments), but she did not attain pitching and lost a key player to OU (right?). Pitching matters, and the team struggled there all year long. Unfortunately, think the men's team will face a similar hurdle, as a lack of pitching depth always bites when it counts (fingers crossed they can at least make super regionals and get on a hot streak).

Were we the only SEC softball team not to advance to Super Regionals (didn't verify, but 9 SEC made supers)? There are other SEC teams with smaller budgets than what Ford has at her disposal and less talented rosters.

Not stating she should be replaced (yet) as she's definitely has the team more competitive vs. Jo Evans last 4 years (who was not getting out of the regionals either). But comparatives should be tu, OU, etc. now going forward IMO.

Ultimately, expect no action as Trev will be satisfied with regional mediocrity as he needs Men's sports to step up further and cash cow his athletic dept budget.

I think she needs to shake up her coaching staff. Our bunting, base running and defensive alignments have been very troublesome.

Team needs something as we are very dumb as a team. Case in point kids walk two in a row and a batter comes up and swings at the first pitch. When you dont have any dominant pitcher its hard to cover up these types of mistakes just like our defense this weekend. We stay back on weak balls that we dont charge and they become hits and eventually they barrel one up. Our offense had some decent numbers but they are smoke and mirrors and venture against top teams they were awful just like this weekend.

Let's compare NIL budgets with them also.
