Kid is a stud. My son's team played his team (Performance Baseball/Brewers Scout Team) this summer and he was the winning pitcher. I forget his exact stat line but he was dominant. Sat about 89 and ran it up to 92 with a change-up and hammer. And he has excellent command and control. I think he might have given up 1 hit and 1 walk in 6 IP. He pounded the zone and could throw any pitch for a strike in any count.

We lost 2-0.

My son threw 1.1 IP that game too and had 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, and 2 Ks- I was a little bummed though because the college coaches there watching Bonnette left before my kid pitched.

I think I read he had a near 4 ERA so I was a little shocked by that

If you read that where I think you did, it's a typo by a Student Assistant

I have it on really good authority HS season ERA was a 2.10, 80ks, 30BB in 60 innings

Had a playoff start on the road with 8 IP, 2 H, 0BB, 15 ks

Summer season 1.98 ERA facing elite talent, 48ks, 16BB in 28 innings

But I would caution anyone not to rely on stats with recruits. They can be very deceiving when figuring out what a kid will project as in college…

I can't vouch for any stats for the kid beyond what I saw in person but he was impressive and I saw the velo numbers with my own eyes from the scouts at the game.

It may have been his best game ever but he pounded the zone with 3 pitches.

Honestly, it was an impressive game all around when we played them. Pitchers dominated.

Good to know, thanks. And I tend to not look at HS stats too much, but a 4 ERA sticks out pretty good. Glad to know it's likely a typo.

New recruits being shown the facility and the tech we have are leaving impressed. They are also impressed with the coaching staff. I think we will see an uptick in the recruits we will attract, but we'll have to keep them out of the draft.

I didn't see the game but have friends who's kids play for Clear Falls and Tony hit three HR's last night in a Fall Game against Texas City High School. Two over the fence and one inside the parker. Dad I received this info from says Tony can really hit so another great commit for hitter friendly Blue Bell Park and Coach Michael Earley!!!

Looks like Earley is on a recruiting heater and I have to think Cain has been a big reason why.

My son knows Curcia a little bit and I'm acquainted with his dad. Kid is a little smaller now- not really in height but slender and a frame to grow. Really twitchy and explosive athlete.

This kid just committed and he's a stud. My wife and his mom grew up together and my son knows him.

So my son isn't on this level- he's getting some college contacts but unless he makes a big jump he's more of a mid-major at the high end. But he's got the grades and he's mostly been talking to high academic schools in the northeast.

Anyway, one of his former coaches who has been in the select/travel world around Houston for 20 years said on numerous occasions that this 2028 class in Texas and Houston specifically has more talent than he'd ever seen.

A lot of these guys who are committing and signing with premier P4 teams like us are guys who will be making a decision between college and NIL vs. professional draft money. Depending on how long the inevitable MLB lockout over the CBA goes we might see a crazy amount of top talent that would have been high draft picks and sign pro contract go to college.

The Texas Twelve/Red Sox Scout 2028 team that Fiedler, Curcia, and Ashley are on is stacked.

To add on to your Curcia scouting report, he's not even 17 years old yet. I kinda feel like this was A&M throwing a dart at a board to see if it sticks with growth and development by the time he graduates in 2028.

If it does and other schools try and poach, A&M can say we saw that you were SEC material early on.

We also got a commitment from Isaac Schroeder out of the Sacremento area. This brings our 2028 class up to seven commits:

LHP AJ Bonnette
C Benjamin Terry
RHP Jackson Salmieri
LHP Yates Ashley
INF Tony Ciurca
OF Isaac Schroeder
INF Travis Fiedler

This one surprises me a bit- he's a helluva ballplayer but it surprises me because his older brother signed with Dewshnagle at t.u. and unless I missed him transferring is still there.

He's close to 17 though- per PG he'll be 17 in November or December.

Our oldest is the really young for the grade- he just turned 16 in July and is a 2028 grad so he'll still be 17 when he graduates HS (same for our youngest too- he just turned 12 last month and is in 7th grade). But he's also a little over 6'3" and weighs about 225 and still not shaving even though I'm not sure he's getting taller. I'd like to see him get closer to 6'4" but we can't control that. He's likely a pitcher at the next level because, while he's a good HS hitter, he tends to think way too much at the plate which slows him down and that's not as much of an issue on the bump.

Yeah, we can't pay for that and I'm skeptical he could get a financial package big enough to make it make sense. He's looking more at schools that offer athletic scholarships but didn't opt-in the House settlement so they're allowed to stack academic awards with athletic scholarships.

What update do you want? Kid is a stud. Top tier athlete with good size and room to grow. Hits for power & average with elite speed. Aggie family.

I think he was Ridge Point's starting QB last year but quit to focus on baseball.

Holy ****balls! If this kid gets to campus it would be huge.

And I just remembered Pence reclassified up to 2027 from 2028 and since the odds of a draft next year are low we might actually get him on campus.

Earley & Cain on a heater.

Our 9th commitment for the class of 2028 is RHP and 1B Cooper LeRoy out of Arizona. Perfect Game ranks Cooper LeRoy as the 4th best first baseman in the class of 2028.

Good bloodlines.

And I don't know how he's looking this fall but heard from folks who know but don't be surprised if Ryan Harwood from Chandler, Arizona starts off the season as Caden Sorrell's replacement in CF.

Also, gotta brag on my oldest- like I said, barring some major jumps he's not likely an A&M level recruit out of HS but he's consistently improving and performing. At the New Balance Future Stars event in Starkville at Dudy Noble he got in 2 games (missed the first day and game 1 because of football). In Saturday's game he played a competent 3rd base but also didn't make a couple tough plays he'd normally make because of fatigue. However, he went 1-2 at the plate with an RBI, a BB, and a HBP.

In Sunday's game he had 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, and 2 Ks.

Now he's been invited to come pitch for the Marucci/Chicago White Sox Scout Team in Ft. Myers next weekend. This WWBA event is huge and literally has coaches from every D1 program in the country attending along with tons of D2, juco, and pro scouts.

He said the first base coach told him "not bad for a football player" on this hit and had a laugh.

The really good pitching video from the event hasn't been uploaded yet so this is what Mama took

Y'all may disagree but I don't think he looks 225 (he's 6'3")

Headed home from Ft. Myers tonight. Team went 2-2 which was disappointing but a great experience for the boy. I'll have pics in a few days when I get them from the org's media guy.

Man-child won his football game Friday night, 57-2 over Kingwood. Got to bed about 12:30 and had a 3:30 wake up call for a 5:10 flight. Got to Ft. Myers about 11:45 and rolled in hot to the game at 12:25 that was scheduled for a 12:30 start. The game ended up starting about 45 minutes late which proved beneficial.

Originally the boy was slated to pitch Sunday so he could rest up Saturday but our starter got in trouble and we were down 4-0 after 3.

So he got loose and went in for the top of the 4th. Ended up with 4 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 2 ER, and 4 Ks. He went 3 up, 3 down in the top of the 4th on 7 pitches. Then got 2 quick outs in the top of the 5th, lost focus, and gave up 2 of his 3 hits and 2 of his 3 walks along with both runs before working out of the jam. Then he pitched 2 more scoreless innings. Ended up losing 6-5.

Not bad for 4 hours sleep.

The big thing though was the coaches watching from Columbia & Yale talking to him, saying they were impressed, and interested in him.

Something to keep an eye on is what's going on with 2027 guys. I've been seeing lots and lots of posts from 2027 recruits who have been committed to D1 programs for a year or so that are decommitting and reopening their recruitment.

Reading between the lines, they're basically getting offers pulled and being told they don't have a spot anymore. Sometimes it's the program being able to bring back an older player thanks to the new "5 for 5" rule, sometimes it's a portal addition (or expected one), and sometimes it's a player not continuing to develop or maybe a guy already in the program making unexpected improvement so they decide to keep him instead of cutting him.

With the portal, NIL, and roster caps baseball is especially brutal when it comes to recruiting. Particularly for HS players.
