I didn't see a forum discussing this so I wanted to bring this to attention. Our baseball team scored 38 runs in 14 innings this weekend. It took last years team 4 games to score that.

However the big question right now is pitching. Thankfully though we have only played 2 games and I don't think we've used any of our big bullpen arms. IE Freshcorn and Stewart.

We are just two games in, but I think we'll at least have more than 30 wins this year lol

Last year we swept Elon opening weekend, but it didn't feel this way at all. We out scored them 32-12, but only out hit them 29-26 through the 3 games. By contrast through 2 games it's been 38-13 on the run line and 33-20 on the hits. Would like to see us hold them to fewer runs today, but overall this team does indeed look very different from last year.

I feel pretty confident about the offense through 2 games. Even some of the outs have been hard hit and we had a couple of Ks due to a bad strike zone. We're having much better ABs up and down the lineup (minus Bear, though even he's found ways to get on base). It took us until mid SEC play for any signs of life from the offense and even then we were streaky.

I agree with the concern on pitching. Sdao and Moss were fine in their first outings, but not front end starters good. Even if they turn it around and figure it out, I'm not sure I trust our depth enough beyond them.

We made the CWS in 2022 with a great offense (coached by Earley) and the worst pitching/defense I've seen over the course of a season in an Aggie uniform. I'm not saying this is that team (at the very least, we've played better defense), but a great offense can get you pretty far.

Pitching will determine the season. We saw how Jason Kelly handled last year's pitching staff, so I'm wondering where the addition of Dylan Olsonawski fits in this year?

Seems like we had a zillion fly balls last year in the first series. Driving the ball and moving runners more this year. Hope we keep that up.

last year after the first series or two it was very clear to me we played a lot of homerin derby in the offseason.

tbis season. the plate discipline using both gaps etc has been impressive. team looks loose and motivated.

I think both can be true.
Yes, we can't assume we are "there" but we can also compare this performance to the performance of like opponents last year and clearly see a difference.

Now, if there is anything we've learned from our football and basketball teams it's not to start the victory laps too soon. We can't be blinded by the outcomes against inferior opponents because once the schedule toughens up then our warts are revealed.
But again, it still is obvious that we are 'better' although it's tough to say by how much.

Not sure where to put this question, but did I see someone post somewhere that Jordan's OPS is something ridiculous like 2.5?

Yep, we went to the Elon series and it was clear as day to me that team had hitting issues.

Feel 180 degrees different with this opening against TN Tech.

This team is looking like 2024 CWS series team. Small sample but if their bats continue....dangerous team. Pitching of course is the deal breaker for making it past the Supers.

I really liked the plate approaches. We won't get 22 walks in a 3 game series many times this year, so the question is do we perform well enough for 10 or 12 of those guys to get on base without a free pass? ...of course plate discipline plays a big role in that and we showed that in spades this weekend.
