As soon as sippie finally jettisoned Pierce last summer I wondered why Rice (or even U of H) did not immediately look into bringing him on board. This hmmm moment is just compounded in my mind with the quick axing of Cruz this season. If the Owls can hire him, it will be as close to a slam dunk that they could muster. In the NIL Era of college athletics I doubt Pierce can get Rice back to their Glory Days but I'm sure he could make them a solid programs once again.

Really going out on a limb.

I was mildly surprised they didn't make a move last summer when he became available.

Pierce has a good resume. 3 CWS trips under his belt & every school he's been HC ge has made the playoffs every year expect the Covid canceled season.

It would be a good move for Rice.

pierce could be a solid choice.

As a beleaguered Rice fan the news that Cruz is gone takes some, though not nearly enough, sting out of my other team speed-running preseason #1 to unranked.

Pierce could be great but there is more resistance to the idea in the Rice community than one might think. Berkman wants it but one would like to think they know better. Think I saw Kendall said Hallmark would take the job if offered but they should aim higher to start.

We have a friend whose son pitches for utsa, the conventional wisdom they're hearing is Rice will fire Cruz and their coach will go to Rice.

Just announced that Rice hired Pierce. He will coach his first game there this Friday

Yep, the natives at Rice have restless for a while. I guess the utsa folks can breathe a sigh of relief now.

Hope he is successful there and can turn it around. Baseball in the State of Texas is better with a competitive Rice program.

Craziness, never seen a midseason hire. This season is still beyond salvaging already but I guess he gets some momentum going toward next.

Wow. I like the move, unconventional mid-season yes, but zero reason to wait for what must be done eventually. And them nabbing someone with Pierce's resume is about as good as they can get.

However, come on Nerds! This photoshop is absolutely horrible.
