I have only listened to the games and watched highlights, but wanted to put out some quick thoughts.

1. Starting pitching looks better than last year, possibly elite if they keep this up.

2. Sorrell is gonna be so good when he's ready. Hope it's soon.

3. Binderup looks great at the plate. Give him time, he'll get better defensively.

4. Depth is crazy on this team. Gotta be tough for Earley to keep certain guys on the bench.

5. Jacob Galloway is impressive. His swing is beautiful. He could be a really positive surprise.

6. Relief pitching is loaded. I think it will be a big strength this year, especially when we stop hitting and walking opposing batters.

Good thoughts, not random at all!

My big thought is this offense is going to explode when it gets warmer. We've had so many fly balls die at the track.

Also the bottom of the order is so good

I'm a bit hesitant on #6 but we shall see

Relief pitching is better than people think. Once roles get established, things will flow.

#1 rule of relief pitching: no free bases. Gotta get better here. Someone pass along to Jason Kelly.

bullpen is the #1 concern at the moment

With relief pitching in college, if your starters are solid and consistently get you 5-6 innings then you really only need like 3-4 reliable bullpen arms on weekends. I think we have that easily

Sure hope there's nothing serious with Stewart. I'm thinking he could be our closer this year.

From the (admittedly small) sample size, I don't see "easily". Gotta come in and throw strikes. Asch was so good at this. We need to find our Asch.

We had Palisch before Asch, we've been spoiled.

Moss, Morton, Rudis, and Freshcorn have thrown over 12 innings combined and given up one earned run.

Bullpen cutting down on free bases

Defense cutting down on errors

Everything else looks worthy of a #1 team

I have a feeling you're overrating our starting-pitchers beyond Prager, like last year.

Need to tap the brakes on pitching. We have yet to know if we have a closer that we can rely on (yes, we were spoiled with Asch last year) but we have not yet established who we can turn to. Middle pen also given up hits. Need to find four guys. With Stewart hurt and Rudis not pitching well, this is still an area of concern. Starting pitching has been solid, excited to see what Patton's second outing is like.

4, you need that depth at key positions to make a run. As we learned last year, Depth is the difference between the guys that make the cws and the one hoisting the trophy at the end. But who would have guessed going into last year we would have needed a backup head coach.

I haven't seen much this weekend but Binderup looked significantly more comfortable defensively yesterday based on what I saw.

This. We've gotten a clear picture on our front line guys, and because coach is keeping starters pitch count down we're seeing more of the pitchers behind them then we probably will in a 1-0 conference game.

4 is not enough though, we need another 2 to step up or we're going to have to mash our way through at least one game every weekend. I like what Luke showed yesterday and if Josh can get healthy that will help a lot.

Major thoughts... I'm nervous about our middle relief and our defense. That's been talked about to death, and rightfully so.

Minor thoughts... What a crummy weather start to the season. Established bats are almost as cold as the weather. Jace - .235, Schott - .190, Kash - .222, Grahovac - .278

I am not worried about the bats yet. I will admit I worry, if Schott is stuck in first gear all year with that knee whether he's a viable option long term. Any ball on the ground is an auto out right now. When Sorrel comes back that may be Bindys spot regardless of the #12. Way too early to make that call but something to watch.
