If A&M administration did that how could they celebrate their leadership?

Man, this is good stuff! Always like Childress….always thought he did things the right way. Someone that I could say I wouldn't my son to play for.

At least Schlongnagles jersey will never be out there among them

What is wild is that Schlossnagle accomplished more then those three combined in 3 seasons.

Rob didn't really do anything to deserve this, but it's a nice gesture of good will to a guy who worked hard for us and it doesn't hurt anybody

Coach worship…got to stop.

2 CWS in about 15 years shouldn't be celebrated here. Not the standard.

Put 22 up there if you want to worship.

We love our RCs who don't do much regarding their job, but are great guys.

They all under performed. None of them should have a number retired or on left field wall.

22 was better.

Was he better or is NIL good for baseball and he benefited from it?

Better and it's not close. He played the hand he was dealt just like they did.

Two top 4 finishes in 3 years. None of those dudes were that close. 89 was the closest but didn't make Omaha.

None of those three guys pulled off the biggest heel turn in college sports history. And thats why it'll never happen for 22. F that guy.

22 shouldn't be up there b/c of that.

Nether should any of them. They aren't good enough. I mean…it seems odd that in our modest baseball history that our last 3 coaches are all on the wall. Did any of them even win a game in Omaha.?

Schloss' record is great. He's won everywhere he's been.

Best baseball A&M has ever seen, and the biggest knife in the back to go with it.

You can make a case for Tom Chandler building a program and his longevity of 26 years as head coach.

You can make an even better case for Mark Johnson. 21 years and all-time wins leader by 200+

Childress seems like a real stretch though. 16 years. 3rd in wins behind Johnson and Chandler. It just doesn't make as much sense.

Finally. He deserves this.

And you know, it's not lost on me that Schloss never made this happen and it only happened immediately after he was gone. Thanks Coach Earley and Coach Hutch for doing this!

MJ did. It was also under MJ's tenure that anyone began to give a damn about Fightin' Texas Aggie Baseball.

One game in 21 years, while Childress went 0-2 and BBQ twice. I dislike Schloss as much as anybody but like I said why do we get so giddy about retiring numbers of mediocre coaches just because we let them stay way too long

If chandler and MJ didn't have theirs then I'd say no to RC getting one

But the precedent has been set so I think RC is just as deserving as the two previous guys.

My question is, would it be possible for 17 to be retired after Jace leaves? If he even replicates his freshmen numbers then he's no doubt greatest player in school history.

This. Jace is the greatest player in the history of Aggie baseball and should 100% have his number retired.

What exactly is the precedent for baseball? In basketball it's that you have to be a consensus All-American player or a national championship winning coach. That's why there's only 3 names hanging in the rafters at Reed Arena and all 3 are very well deserving.

I would not even dream of advocating that schloss should have his jersey retired - but the reality is in 3 years he accomplished more than all 3 of the retired jersey coaches combined.

Also Johnny should have a 3,000 foot statue outside Kyle Field [rant over]

Should be the same in every sport. Consensus AA or national title for a coach. The standard needs to be very high. If each of your last 3 coaches meet the standard and none of them really went to Omaha or even won there, the standard is way, way too low.

Precedent in Aggie baseball (not talking other schools or sports) it seems is a coach who has had long tenure, left with class and been to Omaha multiple times. That's what Johnson, Childress and chandler all have in common.

That precedent is just based on the previous two jerseys being retired for those coaches. It makes sense they'd add Rob to that because he accomplished basically what they did and left with class as well
OilAg01

I think we all understand the precedent. I just think it's an incredibly low bar for a regional sport and you should have just stopped it at MJ. I mean, Coastal Carolina has a Natty in the last decade or so and we're handing out participation trophies for coaches that had long tenure because we don't hold them to a high standard.

Being a good guy and having class should not be part of the discussion. This isn't the Lowe's Sr Class Award.
tjack16
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I get that. I'm just saying based on the previous two coaches getting their jerseys retired it makes sense rob would too.

I'd like to see #17 retired at Olsen (if Jace is an all American again this year), #2 retired at Kyle as well and #4 at Reed after Wade hopefully breaks the scoring record

Technically, they aren't retired just honored. Hutch won't issue them to anyone but as much as none of us can imagine Aggie baseball without him, he will not be there forever.

Now, I wouldn't ever try to be the one to take them off the wall but someone might in the future.

You have a different definition of mediocre than me. Not being elite does not mean anything anything short of that level is at best mediocre.

When TC was coaching it was a very different game, getting to Omaha was very much regional with each section of deciding how they picked that section's representative to the CWS.

Now I wouldn't have voted to retire RC's number but don't have a real problem that they did.

IMO you can (should) judge a coach's tenure beyond wins and losses.

As for POS, his three seasons were fantastic. Loved every second of them.
