Question for those in the know, I am in discussion with someone who is saying that signing NLI in baseball is a chance to tryout for the team. He is pointing to a couple players who I guess experienced something like this. For A&M, once you sign the NLI, I would think you are on the team for at least that year.

Thoughts?

What does the NLI contract say. I would bet it is contingent on being on the team and there is no guarantee to make the team.

Baseball teams will often sign more players than they have roster spots for. They have to make cuts at the end of the fall in order to be in compliance with NCAA roster limit rules. This may be what you're referring to.

This cannot be a stipulation of an NIL.

Not that it applies to the OPS original question

I am not referring to this year specifically. This year is different, but in any other year.

Those pull forward the actual contract signature while NLI was merely a letter of intent. I'll leave it to someone smarter than I to tell us what NLI actually contained and if that is materially different or not.

They aren't going to give you aid if you aren't on the team. You don't have to sign anything to tryout or walk-on. It just depends on what the team is looking for and how they arrange tryouts. I'm not really sure what the OP is asking.
