Not going to get upset about any hire. We don't know what kind of support they have where they are; just want someone with a longterm commitment and a constructive attitude.

Brian O'Connor can't win at Omaha anymore. I really don't see that being a good fit. Skip Johnson may not get the job but I'd prefer someone with knowledge of this state and conference. He should've had a head job sooner, just like his old high school teammate Tim Tadlock.

Skip would swing the pendulum back toward pitching so to speak (a la Childress)

whereas Schloss was hitting-heavy -- which seems to work better in the SEC

last year's OU team hit 73 home runs and put down 18 sac bunts

the Sooners were out-homered by their opponents 83 to 73 -- that would be a big problem in the SEC

He also had very little money and spent it on pitchers. He can recruit hitters. He is a great pitching coach.

He can't win because he has no resources. It's amazing what resources can do.

so give him same salary and say come see what you can do with some resources for a few years and then we will pay you. Don't give him $3.5M hoping he can win with some resources.

only after O'conner, Vitelo, O'sullivan turn you down.

I'm ok with Skip. I feel like he would have a chance with our resources. But I would want a strong hire for hitting. Girls like the long ball.

Vitello for $3M it is.

Just don't double or triple his salary per usual. Then get stuck in 3 years when he doesn't win saying just a few more years.

The Virginia baseball NIL fund this year was $175K, total.

We paid Monty three times that.

Of course he can't win anymore, his program doesn't support the market rates.

I think it's a great hire to hire a successful coach at a program that has poor facilities and little interest. It's like Saban recruiting the kids that could play but had not already had the best nutrition and training facilities before he knew he could raise their potential.

Ask yourself this. LSU, Florida State, and Texas are considered elite baseball programs. When they had an opening, were they considering Skip Johnson?

You're crazy if you think they were. A&M is right now on that level and elite coaches see the Aggies as a legit option for the first time ever. I hope they don't **** it up with a hire no other elite program would even consider.

No, but I think Skip has done more than Mark. There are others higher on the desired list. I get that. But I'm not going to write this guy off.

He would be good here but I'd prefer an ACC or SEC guy

Would this be playing right into what tu wants? I mean stealing the coach from an in state rival and throwing the program into disarray then that rival steals the coach from their out of state rival?

Not sure if this is a long play but I don't like it.

Better off with with someone else…least it's my way of thinking.

His record and stats are worse than Childress'. His win percentage is lower. His conference win percentage (in the BDF) is lower (and barely above .500). He makes the post season less frequently. He goes to super regionals less frequently. The only similar metric is CWS appearances.

Of all the names thrown out- this is the one that would disappoint me.

Hell- DBU & Dan Heefner beat them twice this year.

That's exactly the point. They settled for Sark in football after striking out on high profile coaches. Would tu have gotten the splash hire if it weren't for CDC's relationship with Schloss? They may very well have had to settle for a non-elite coach, much like they did with Pierce hiring.

If it's Skip or Hefner I think both will be great hires. They are definite upgrades in the people department. They are both loyal Skip hates Texas for how they shoved Augie out and left him at the altar. He resurfaced at Ou on that staff with Tim Tadlock one of his best friends. Tadlock left for Tech Skip was eventually promoted when Larry retired. He's a great coach done well with not much to work with and big. 12. Don't think yuu can go wrong with either O'Connor I'm not thinking is a good fit.

They would not have fired Pierce if Skip Johnson was their best option. Don't fool yourself.

Skip would kill it here. He has no support or money at OU. But let's not let facts ruin a good meltdown. This is Texags after all.

I've gotten phone calls and texts from numerous former players, coaches, and parents of commits saying he would be great. Take it for what you will.
