ESPN's Dani Wexelman shares thoughts on Texas A&M's run in MCWS

Back home from assignment at the 2024 Men's College World Series, ESPN's Dani Wexelman joined TexAgs Radio on Friday morning to discuss what A&M has done to impress her thus far, the matchup with a fiery Tennessee squad and much more.

Key notes from Dani Wexelman interview

  • It’s been the best. This is a dream of mine to get to do this. In this field, I think we have some of the best teams, coaching staffs and SIDs that I have worked with. I am back home now, so I will also be scheduling everything that I am doing around the games coming up.

  • You have the two powerhouse conferences that are so well represented. It’s some of the best talent in the country. You might not have THE No. 1 pick here in Omaha, but you still have really, really good players.

  • The coaches have personalities in their interviews. You listen to Tony Vitello speak. Jim Schlossnagle is one of the best to do it. I told him that when his career is over, he better join me in a broadcast booth.

  • If you look statistically at Tennessee’s numbers, it’s actually really terrifying. Getting on base, the power, the walks and the average, they are No. 1 or No. 2 in a field of eight in all those categories. What is ironic is Texas A&M loves to walk. Tennessee’s pitching staff has given up the fewest walks.

  • Texas A&M dominates the zone. Max Weiner has done a really great job in his first season.

  • If you look at a team that is down for the count right now and finding ways to win, that’s what I have circled in red pen about Texas A&M. It’s miraculous. Without Braden Montgomery, without Shane Sdao, and you have Jace LaViolette grinding it out with that hamstring... Kaeden Kent has been the guy I have been looking at as the one to step up.

  • It’s a testament to the staff. A&M leads the nation in shutouts. That’s not a coincidence. Max Weiner has put confidence in those kids. For them to be able to get to this point with the injuries they have sustained to some of their best guys... Oh, and by the way, Chris Cortez was not as sharp as you have hoped, they still have the depth to get it done.

  • For Justin Lamkin, when you get to this stage, the most important thing to deal with is the first inning. He has had two of those now to deal with. Guys rise up to the occasion in Omaha. The unsung heroes are one of my favorite parts of Omaha, and Lamkin has done a fantastic job.

  • Tennessee is relentless. There is no breathing room in that lineup. They know how to mash baseballs and create chaos. They won’t steal as much as A&M. 1-9 in the Volunteers lineup is really scary. Their plate discipline is off the charts.

This was a great interview. I liked how Dani Wexelman articulated the examples of how Jim Schlossnagle's coaching staff has been excellent all year.

Her hyperbole about Tennessee could only be articulated by a woman. We played them a few weeks ago. It was not scary.

Evansville almost took 2 of 3 from them, ffs.

I don't know what's worse, the clear sexism in that first sentence, or the people that starred it. I expect better from my fellow Ags.

Dani Wexelman just spent 20 minutes taking about how the Tennessee coach would be crazy to take the tu job, and then turned around and said Schloss would a fool not to take it. She trashed A&M on national radio, y'all really should not have her back on again.

Agreed. Just listening to it now and she is trashing A&M's status.
