Earned it with the 1 overall seed.

It's so that they don't get an extra day off before playing us on Saturday in Finals game 1, all else equal. We play the same day as them now, Wednesday. If they played today, we'd get 1 day less rest than them right before facing them in the Finals.

What's less cool is they should be sitting with a loss on their CWS record from their game with Florida State.

A critical checked bat swing that was ruled a non-swing kept the game alive …. And thus they went on to win.

If we win Wednesday and they lose, then we'll get one more day of rest than them (or whoever wins Thursday)

I'll just be thankful for the 2-0 start and the day off that we've earned. Not concerned with the orange hillbillies. We've gotta take care of business before we worry about them. They've gotta do the same.

Easy. Play 6 games a day.

TBD what happens. Maybe UNC/FSU beats them so they have to play an extra game. Anything can happen.

That whole bracket got an extra day off. Tennessee's next opponent had a day of rest that our next opponent will not have had.

I guess I should have phrased it better. How about, what is a workable structure that there are no differences in days off and still TV friendly?

They used to take extra time off between first rounds and finals, but then you had the possibility of days with no games if teams didn't need if necessary and one team clinched and waiting and the other waiting around to play without baseball at all for no reason.

Only way to fix it is to have 2 stadiums host opening rounds on same day and I don't think that is going to happen for a multitude of reasons. #1 being you don't build a $50,000,000 stadium for 6 games a year

our side of the bracket got the extra day off on the front end as they started a day before us.
not quite the same.....but we got SOME benefit then

Go back to a true double elimination 8 team tournament. No separate brackets and no final 2 out of 3 series.
Make going through the winners bracket unbeaten mean something. Would have to play 4 games on the first day to avoid unequal time off. Then alternate winners bracket, losers bracket days.

We'll get it back when they have to play on Wednesday and Thursday while we're resting after Wednesday night.

wish they wouldve just left the final series Mon-Wed. the shortened tourney now gives the friday teams little extra advantage going into finals.

I think the three game series to clinch is the best feature. And if we win our next game we get the two days off…

They moved away from that format because it is not TV friendly not only for the CWS but additionally for the Super Regional round once they adopted it. I doubt they'll go back to a system they haven't used in 35+ seasons. IMO you're picking nits here. It is fair to the teams in their respective brackets. Any advantage is negligible or you would hear grumblings from coaches being in the later starting bracket.

Personally love the Championship Series so I'd hate to see that go.

How? Both sides of the bracket determining games are played on the same day(s).

The 1-4-5-8 bracket plays a day earlier than the 2-3-6-7 side starting with the super regionals.

Could be worse… the horns have the whole summer off

Two schools of thought:

Top of the bracket gets these 2 days off and can clinch on Wednesday, one extra day of overall rest if they make it to the championship series without suffering a loss.

Bottom of the bracket, if you win the first 2 games then your loser's bracket gets very little to no rest, making it easier to reach the championship series when in the drivers seat.

If the current proposed schedule holds, we will be playing a team that has to play Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, Wednesday. Tennessee will be playing a team that played Friday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Just win your bracket in 3 and give yourself the best chance possible with pitching rest.

The argument is they had one less day between supers and Omaha.

Depending upon what the weather does tomorrow, A&M might end up getting an extra day off.

Fatdad84ag has it 100% correct; the old double elimination tournament with one 8 team bracket was the much better format.
