Major League
Bull Durham
Moneyball
The Sandlot
Bad News Bears
A League of Their Own
The Rookie
The Natural
Field of Dreams

Little Big League (not a great movie, not even really a good movie, but it has the highest quality baseball play of any movie without a doubt)

Eight Men Out was a terrible movie, it's difficult to get through.

Mostly by how much I quote them:

1. The Sandlot
2. Major League
3. A League of Their Own
4. Bull Durham
5. Field of Dreams
6. Moneyball
7. The Bad News Bears
8. The Rookie
9. The Natural
10. Angels in the Outfield

Quote usage is a reasonable way to measure the greatness of a movie. Try this one:

Dutton: Don't we need a catcher?

Hill: Not if you get it near the plate, we don't.

Bang The Drum Slowly stands out as one of the best baseball movies I ever saw, but I pretty much enjoyed every baseball movie I ever saw. There's just something about the game that draws you into a story.

Shocked for the lack of love for Rookie of the Year. One honorable mention.

Not a movie, but the X-Files episode The Unnatural was thoroughly enjoyable.

I didn't find "Kill the Umpire" (1950) anywhere on here. It's kinda dopey, but still a lot of fun.

Everyone else pretty much covered all the other great baseball movies, but think the list ought to be expanded to the top 20 since there are just so darn many.

Btw, Bull Durham is incredibly entertaining imo, and despite the lulls in Field of Dreams I find it wistfully nostalgic.

Bad News Bears (1976) -
  • Buttermaker: You probably lost on purpose. You probably like the little baboon.
  • Amanda: Blow it out your bunghole!
I don't care who you are, that's just funny!

The heartbreaking performance by not yet famous Robert De Niro still sticks with me.

And after watching a few clips to refresh my memory, it hit me that the perfect baseball movie match for Hayden Schott is Michael Moriarty's portrayal of Henry Wiggins in Bang The Drum Slowly

Bang the Drum Slowly is an all time favorite. The guy wrote 3 books about that character and this is the middle one, I think.

Field of Dreams
Sandlot
Moneyball

The only three I've seen. I was at Olsen in '89 and had a kid that could have played a long time but went Moonlight Grahm, so Field of Dreams hits home.

Bull Durham
Sandlot
Major League
The Hill (if you haven't seen it- go watch it now!)
The Natural
Money ball
For Love of the Game
Trouble with the Curve (because I love RomComs and Clint Eastwood)

I loathe Field of Dreams.

61* is absolutely phenomenal. It was directed by Billy Crystal and (pardon the pun) he knocked it out of the park.

Take out the sappy stuff at the beginning and end and it is an A+ baseball movie from Wrigley Field for the try outs, some excellent action shots (better than many baseball movies) to some great lines.
