I caught the back end of a spot on 1150 this morning talking about NIL at A&M. The guy talking said, "An athlete on our baseball team is making $500k in NIL. Multiple other athletes in other sports (I'm assuming football) are making a quarter million dollars."

I don't know the context or even who it was because I caught the end of it and haven't heard it again. Did anyone catch it?

I just heard it - I think we all know who that would be.

I'm not saying it's wrong; it's actually probably accurate.

But I still don't ever trust any sources that claim what athletes are making in NIL.

^This. It's only public if the student athlete accurately reveals which likely is limited by an NDA to only revealing to the school.

One of our players making $500k makes me want to see if I can follow club baseball (if we still have a team).

So you're emotionally reacting to a potentially untrue claim? Keep in mind the NCAA-agreed to settlement allows schools to directly fund another $20 million per annum in direct payments to students…

I know that player's agent very well and can confirm that it's true. Number stated may not be exact but it's in the ballpark. That player wouldn't be at A&M without that enticement.

Ask the agent for a copy of the contract.

I heard the interview as well

And yes I heard the part about the 500k NIL for one of our current baseball players.
Remember when there was a thread about why he transferred here and people actually said for the cultural and to Goto school at A&M. lol
No it was $$$

I think many would be shocked how much this team makes in NIL.

It was Paul Batista with A&M.
It wasn't just some random guy doing an interview . This was his address to the A&M faculty senate
I don't think he would have brought it up if it it wasn't true.

Be skeptical if you like. I don't post on here very often but when I do the content is factual. I am involved in college baseball and occasionally know things that aren't public knowledge.

You don't think that very same player was also offered money by at least 3 other SEC schools? The money is not the only factor in these decisions, it's a given that money will be included no matter where players go

I don't actually believe the $500k number, but I hope it's true. Spending that type of money should make us a consistent Omaha team…

No I don't think anyone else offered him half million.
It was a bidding war and we won. It was all about $ , nothing else.

Said player had already played in back to back College World Series'

This is wrong . There were 3 SEC schools that offered him more money to play for them ( including 1 from his home state ). His personal hitting coach being located nearby helped our chances as well , but the notion we were the high bid is incorrect .
Skenes NIL # at LSU ( as well as Tommy White's ) last year, were much more than what we paid as well.

We still have a club baseball team. They made it to the World Series this year. They beat Oregon in game one, but lost to ECU and Florida State to be eliminated. I played on the club team after I transferred to A&M from my previous stop, so my old teammates and I still keep up with the team loosely.

Pretty sure Nolan Cain was the influence; he coached at LSU and was the one who signed Jace there.

Why?

I preferred watching my school play when it didn't take a large bribe to get the players to attend. I'm proud to have a degree from Texas A&M.

I don't have a problem with Aggie baseball. My problem is with modern college athletics.
