Flying out of Asstin friday. Should land in Lincoln about 4:30. I absolutely loathe flying and would much rather drive, but taking my 75 year old dad and he's not up for a 12 hour drive.

Got my flights booked, now to decide carry on or check luggage? It's been a long time since I've flown. We have a 1 hr "layover" in Denver before boarding our connecting flight. If I check luggage will I pick it up at baggage claim in Denver or does it typically meet me at our final destination? I'm sure thats a dumb question, but it's been 20 years since I've flown.

United or Southwest? Most will tell you to carry on, but if you don't want to deal with lugging your stuff and your dads around I would check the bags in Austin.. Regardless, they will send your bag on to the plane in Denver. You just pick it up in Omaha.

Thanks for the info. We're flying United. I think we'll just carry on.

You will not have to grab your bags, they'll automatically transfer them. Most people will carry on, mainly because it saves you the time to wait form them after arrival at baggage claim (plan for a 20 minute wait if you go this route. Another reason is to mitigate the possibility of bags getting lost. Very low risk though. If you don't mind waiting for your bag at baggage claim and don't want to have to keep up with it during your connection (i.e. need the free hand to help dad), then just check it. It's the easiest outside of having to wait the extra time. I though still carry on personally because I like to be able to walk off the plane and go. I travel frequently enough and hate having to wait for my bags, but that's a personal thing.

That's probably the best plan. You never quite know what you'll get weather wise in Denver in the summer afternoons. There's a decent chance of storms on Friday so it's always nice to have your bags in case of a delay. I looked up that flight and the aircraft is an A319 so there is overhead space, but depending on your boarding group it may fill up. They will offer to check your bag at the gate for free if the overheads are full. One last thing, there's an outside chance you may land on the B Concourse and have to go to the A Concourse (or vise versa) and have to take the train. An hour is plenty of time.

Don't stress about it and enjoy the games in Omaha!

Since you do probably do not fly out very often. FYI..

I do not not you or your Dad's vet status. With disabled vet tags, you can park free in the parking garage at the airport

Going up for the fourth time this year. I hang out with a bunch of Ragin Cajuns and we tailgate at the Creighton university soccer field. Between game we drink at the Happy bar a few blocks from the stadium.

Thoroughly enjoyed staying in Lincoln two years ago and will be back there again… great restaurants that are much less crowded, licorice international store on 7th street, the Capitol building is truly a good place to go see, lots of places to explore there when not being totally immersed in baseball. Last time it was really, really hot so we found having some alternatives to go and relax in cool air with friends was a good thing!
We also hang out over at Creighton with the Rajin Cajun crew and have been to the Happy Bar a couple of times… there's an autographed by Rob Childress Aggie Baseball jersey hanging on the wall

We flew in yesterday. Omaha is beautiful - if anyone is lookin for a place to hang out or a park for the kiddos the new Heartland of America Park in downtown is just a few blocks over from the ballpark and convention center district. Really cool spot with several playgrounds and scenic spots. Same architects as Aggie Park

I stayed in Lincoln in 2022 and will be doing so again this year. Hotels are not very expensive and only 30 minutes from Omaha. Plus, cool college town with University of Nebraska being there. Highly recommend it

I also stayed in Lincoln in 2022. Prices are much cheaper but it is 50 miles, not 30.
