Well, it looked to me that he got hung out to dry by a base coach waiting to late to make the call after he tagged and was yelling at him to get back to the base.EMY92 said:
I can't believe that Grahovac didn't break for home after Montgomery was caught off second. Once he was caught off second, the only hope of not ending the inning badly was for Grahovac to try to score. Otherwise, UTSA just needs to walk behind Montgomery and tag him out at third since the bag was already occupied.
If Grahovac goes, then UTSA is forced to either try to get Montgomery out before Grahovac crosses the plate, or throw home to get Grahovac. That would also increase the chance of an error.
Even as they were walking off the field, the Coach Nolan was still trying to tell Gavin what he did wrong, and it it didn't appear that it was on Gavin. He tagged up and broke to home just like one would expect and our coach held him up way to late.
Now maybe they had discussed something different before the play about not wanting to make the final out at home, but that didn't appear to be on Gavin.
And as much as Brandon can't run up his but at third in that situation, I can't fault him for trying to get to third, either because to him it looked like Gavin was going home. And I imagine like everyone else in the stadium he was operating under the assumption Gavin tagging and trying to score was a given.
