He will probably get drafted (one service has him just inside top 50 prospect) and go pro but it would be nice to have Janak to be our next year's catcher transfer. Not sure we are still doing the covid thing (he'sa junior this year). I think that ends. So maybe we'll grab another smart school catcher. Haha

Bearkat fan here great game Aggies. This was probably our most exciting game of the season as I'm sure based on my observations of the Aggie fans sitting around me it was the same for you! We are not some scrub ball club by any means. We have a very strong baseball tradition and are looking to make back to back regionals. I would like to correct the record that you guys are not our Super Bowl. I hate to break it to you but you're not. I would've loved a win over #4 and to make it 3 in a row over you guys with a 7-3 record over the last 10 matchups but I couldn't have asked for a better game. Winning is the expectation even against P5 opponents. 2 years ago we took down #4 Oklahoma St so we're no stranger to pulling off upsets. Lots of respect to your ball club as I hope you would respect our ball club. It's no secret we have a fraction of the resources that TAMU has but we've made this highway 30 game competitive over the last decade. Maybe we'll meet again in a regional. Best of luck against Florida!

Why did your Sam Houston State University Baseball Team avoid a post-game handshake with the Aggies? The one thing I truly believe must remain in college athletics is sportsmanship. The Bearkats leaving Olsen Field without a handshake with their Aggie opponents was all trash, no class, and showed a true lack of sportsmanship.

Couldn't tell you. I didn't stick around after the game but if I found out why I will post it here. That's not typical of our ball club to do.

Thanks for the post and for the reply. I wish you and the Bearkats well with your 2024 college baseball season.

I have lots of family and close friends who are Texas A&M University graduates and who are Sam Houston State graduates. Plus, I got to work on both TAMU and SHSU legislation and state funding when I was an aide for the Texas senator who in the early 1990s represented both TAMU and SHSU.

I think most people here have a ton of respect for Sam Houston's program and maybe even more than respect for the years Mark Johnson was your coach. In my roughly 50 years as an Aggie I have watched A&M play one game that I didn't mind losing, and that was the one we played in MJ's last year.

Now while this game against the Aggies may not be your Super Bowl, and I don't blame you for objecting to that characterization, the fact that you know the series record for the past 10 games does kind of suggest that's it got some good amount of importance to you.

SHSU is a very strong program and we're lucky to have them nearby providing such stout competition. There have been several beloved coaches of ours who have gone there and done well. Aggies generally root for Sam when we aren't playing them, especially in the NCAA regionals, where SHSU has become a regular. The "we are their super bowl" canard is cringy and childish; that's the excuse teasips use for losing. Have a great year.

In all fairness I'm an avid college baseball fan. I could tell you our record over the last 10 against Baylor, SFA, Texas, TCU, TX St, DBU, etc. Never a bad idea to read your pregame write up for the opponent you're facing. Feel free to think what you want though!

Have several UT and A&M alumni in my family and "we're their Super Bowl" is a very accurate characterization of Longhorn fans…

Braden's ball in the 9th was the hardest hit of the night at 114 MPH. Absolutely scalded and an amazing play by the Sam 2B.

Am I going crazy or is this nothing? I haven't been to a game in like 2 years but we usually just line up and handshake our own team... I get that people are saying we shook Rhode Island's hands but I don't think it's customary at all.
